March Show n Shine Winners

Congratulations to David Hossack of Edinburgh for winning our March show n shine. David has done an amazing job over the last month or so correcting numerous paint defects on his Polo GTI. Until recently, David always washed his car with a sponge and a single bucket, and unsurprisingly this has resulted in numerous paint defects being added to the finish over the years. After seeking advice from us the first thing David changed about his car care routine was to switch to using the two bucket method in conjunction with a lambswool wash mitt and Poorboy’s Slick & Suds shampoo. He then clayed the whole car to remove bonded surface contaminants, in order to prepare the paint for machine polishing with his newly purchased Porter Cable 7424 dual action polisher. VAG paint is often difficult to correct, and David’s initial attempts with Poorboy’s SSR2.5 and SSR1 using Lake Country pads didn’t take out all of the swirls and hardly touched the more serious scratches. After switching to Menzerna Intensive Polish, applied using Lake Country orange light cut pads, virtually all of the defects were removed, save for a few very deep scratches on the rear bumper. With the paint now corrected, David moved on to concentrate on enhancing the finish and adding protection. The first step in this process was to apply Clearkote Red Moose Machine Glaze by machine using Lake Country black glazing pads. The second step was to apply a coat of Clearkote Carnuba Moose Wax by hand. The results speak for themselves; a fantastically rich, wet looking finish, with great depth and clarity – just how red should look.

Congratulations also to Chris Bennett from Kilmarnock for coming a close second. Chris has done a great job of restoring the condition of this Peugot 306, using a combination of Meguiars wash and clay products, followed by the Menzerna range of polishes. To finish, Chris applied a coat of Poorboy’s EX-P sealant and topped it with a couple of coats of P21S Carnuba Wax. Chris has done a cracking job of removing some pretty nasty swirls and restoring the trims, and his attention to detail is commendable.
