Strange Noise at rear of car, any ideas?
I was driving in very slow traffic which also meant I had to keep stopping and starting. I was in this traffic for about 2 miles. On 2 separate occasions I heard like a bang from the rear of the car on the passengers side when braking. I was only doing about 5 miles an hour at most and it happened just as I was about the stop. It sounded like someone hitting the side of the car with their hand. Any ideas what it could be? Hopefully nothing serious I hope

Car type and year might help a little?

someone in the boot:confused:

Sorry forgot. It's a MY05 WRX

could well be your rear top mount for the suspension..

Yeah prob rear shocks which is common fault on newage STI's. Mines in on Monday under warranty to get sorted. Shocks stick and last week I took a bag of shopping out of boot and car made banging noise then rear end jumped up prob an inch or so!! This must also affect handling which is frightening compared to my MY01 WRX. Back end slides out too easily on slightest of bends!! Reminds me of my old Opel Manta GTE RWD but less predictable...

Very good chance of being shocks.....I had rear's replaced twice on STI8.
|
Are these replaceable under warranty since the car is only 12 months old?
|
Yes :D Going into Prosport myself next friday for the 2nd of my rear shocks replaced due to knocking.
