Rich as a bitch
I've just whipped out the sparkies and slapped in a new set, first time I've done the plugs on a WRX and I must say it was a breeze, everyone keeps saying its a pain in the arse?? You think thats a pain in the arse you want to try doing the plugs on a Straight six with half a tonne of air hoses and charge cooler on top :lol1:
I've inspected all of the old plugs, they are all equally dry and sooty as hell, we already had suspiscions it was running a bit rich (due to the dubious economy) so this proves it.. I'm going to fit a new ECU temp sensor as they tend to cause over fueling when they die, also there is a leak in the up pipe which will be sucking in air and not helping matters. Now my question is is it possible to clean the MAF, the element looks a bit grimey, is it safe to spray it with carb cleaner? And can anyone think of anything else that might be causing over fueling? Map sensor maybe? Cheers :thumb: |
lambda sensor..
you can clean the early phase 1 mafs with no problems and I think the phase 1.5 are okay with that too but a phase 2 is a no no. Simon |
Good call! And that little bugger is nice and easy to get to on the scoob :)
Its a 94' so I guess it should be ok to give it a quick squirt Cheers. |
Yep squirt away..

I assume newage cars are phase 2 then???
Why can't you clean them? |
no newage cars are newage cars.. :) different again..
they are too sensitive.. you will fubar it! |
Ok, sorry, by "phase" you meant the car, not the MAF, i thought the MAF had different "phases / models"....
Its all clear now!! lol |
I believe the newage maf is similar to the phase 2 but I have little to do with the specifics on newage..
I wouldn't clean a newage maf either though.. |
