Heat proof/lagging DP and FMIC
I will shortly be upgrading to a FMIC and ninja DP with sport cat.
Is it worth while heat wrapping/lagging the pipework or DP, before they go on? Are there any pro's/con's to doing this:wonder: Thanks:) |
No one?
BTT |
It may be worth you lagging the pipework directly above the turbo plus the down pipe in my mind.
No pictures of it lagged but this shows the pipework clearly http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ntMount021.jpg |
Will noticably reduce turbo lag, ie a few hudred rpms, by utilising more heat energy to spin the turbo. Also keeps underbonnet temps lower.
Only thing i have heard is that wrapping can cause turbos to reach their surge limit. But i have never seen or heard of any evidence to back this up. |
Can also wrap the turbine housing with aluminumised wrap, also helps alongside doing the headers. This would probably give more gains than doing the downpipe.

most only wrap uppipe and manifold
you may want to ask the supplier of the sport cat if it is ok to wrap as the cat will get hotter |
My fmic pipework is unwrapped and it stays very cool. The downpipe is wrapped though.

Thanks for all the advice.
Off on a tangent, but, I had a turbo blanket thing, to obviously reduce under bonnet temps and was told it was a bad thing, as it would not allow any cool air to the turbo:wonder: , is this correct? Mart:) |
The turbo blanket is a good thing. Hotter gasses flow faster which will reduce lag. The turbo is water and oil cooled so a small amount of airflow that it gets from the scoop isn't going to make a difference!
|
I'll put it back on then!!
Thanks for the advice:thumb: Martin:) |
Only lag the exhaust side of your turbo and leave the compressor side unwrapped.
