A BIT OF HELP PLEASE...

A friend of mine bought a v5 sti type r last week and came down to me today to say there was a problem..when he puts on a full lock or near enough to it and takes of normally the back of the car seems to be juddering quite a bit(something similar to what happens with the subaru clutch when cold),almost like something is locking at the rear,i was thinking it could be something to do with the variable diff or something???anyone any ideas as hes quite wiorried about it...

cheers..

Sounds like he may have the diff partially closed. All it will be is that all four wheels are trying to turn at the same time (full lock) and when trying to steer, the wheels want to turn at a different rate causing judder. Even if your mate has the dial just off the rear it will still clunk at slow speeds.
Although the juddering sensation would be felt more through the front!

The diff should always be open when driving slow in the dry. i.e. ensure the dial is fully towards the rear (green light illuminated on bottom of dash scroll).
You only need mess with the diff when it's wet/snowing etc or at higher speed.

If the above does not work then, YES there may be a diff problem. Get it checked at a specialist.

Do a search for "DCCD" on here for full explanation.
