OIL LIGHT ON?
I need some advice please.I have a 2001 bugeye WRX and I've just started my engine to find that the oil pressure indicator light is glowing faintly when the engine is running but not as bright as when the engine is 1st started. It def is full of oil cos ive checked. Any idea's why it hasnt gone out? Has anyone else had this problem? Please help!!!:wonder:

Have you washed the engine recently or gone through any large puddles?
|
Yeah I've done a bit of degreasing why? Whats happened?
|
Water on the oil pressure switch,Disconnect the wiring dry it, and spray some wd40 on it and the switch and all will be well.

Where's that mate. In really simple terms cos I'm crap with engines! any chance you could point it out?:o

From memory its underneath the alternator,Although im prepared to be corrected by someone. You may find it difficult to disconnect if so give the lot a good soaking of wd40 in situ.I have put an arrow on the pic where i think it is although it will be lower down than the arrow points to.

Cheers mate I appreciate the help!:luxhello:

Yep as said sticking out the top of the block under the alternator :)
|
if it aint that,
wen was the last oil change, was it was recent, if not then the oil pump may be ****ed, and dont think that cos wen u rev the enine it goes of that its fine cos the oil presure sensor is only any good for wen the engine is at idle |
Oil pressure lights are useless anyway, it might as well say "ENGINE F**KED" :lol1:
I'm sure if water is involved an electrical connection is to blame, unless there is loads of water in the oil? :Suspiciou |
Had exactly the same problem and it has been mentioned on SN before.
My Oil light illuminated dimmly, but Oil pressure was aroung 6 bar at the time. It was a damp day though. Martin |
I would suggest changing the switch if no water is found, i had the same problem on a different car, turns out the switch was faulty, just an idea and a cheap thing to do first before writing off the engine

I think It must have been moisture on the oil pressure switch cos i left it to dry out completely and started the engine again after a few hours and the light had gone!! Cheers for all comments guys!!:notworthy |
