Hi all,
I've just signed up for a brand new Subaru Imprezza WRX 2.0 T.
Extras incude, Nutso WR Sport rear boot spolier, Morette twin headlamps and the performance pack (246 bhp), and a set of WRX mats. Now I'm awaiting collection on Friday and have everything sorted, finance the lot, totals about £26,000. Like the marriage ceremony, if anyone has any reason that this man should not take this car to be his ever loving car, speak now or forever hold your peace!

Rebel 20 October 2001 10:47 PM

Oh I forgot the 17" prodrive 7 spoke gold wheels and 'dark' blue mica paint!

Spudgun GTR 20 October 2001 10:49 PM

one word? how about 3 letters....STI;)

Rebel 20 October 2001 10:50 PM

or six letters .. IMPORT and nine letters .. INSURANCE.

Spudgun GTR 20 October 2001 10:54 PM

true, but from what ive been reading on the bbs, a euro import sti7 may work out less than the wrx youre getting. it will have a warranty, albeit not 3 years, but would be serviced by your local dealer. is the difference in insurance premiums THAT great between a ppp'd wrx and an sti 7?

mbc 20 October 2001 11:42 PM

got the same as you but in wr blue minus ppp but plus 18 inch oz wheels,grill,front/rear bumper lip adn side skirt thing's for £24100,bear in mind kit bits and grill were roughly £800 inc paintingand wheels wer £1800,oh and no mats

Don't worry about what people say you should have got, enjoy what you HAVE got.

Spudgun GTR 21 October 2001 09:01 AM

sasman, i wasnt trying to put a downer on his purchase, but in his opening post he asked for opinions before he got it. having had my fingers badly burnt in the past on a specced up uk scooby, i was only trying to be helpful. the sti7 seems to be the one to wait for.

rebel
good luck with the car, i know you'll love it:)

stephen emery 21 October 2001 12:20 PM

I maybe off track here!
but i thought that the uk version of the sti would not have the 280bhp and could be as low as 250bhp, due to euro regs.
may have 6speed , other bits and bobs. and possably 31k

i thought about sti , but uk wrx with ppp and a few other extras seems by far the better buy ! with some scooby sport bits may be as fast or faster!
cheeper anyway, 21k ,1600 ppp, 650 uk300 lights, scooby sport full exhast for xmass !

Spudgun GTR 21 October 2001 02:41 PM

stephen
i'm probably wrong(usually am;) ) but from reading recent threads, the euro sti7 will come in well under 25k, uk supplied version 30k.
i see your point about a modded wrx with ppp. but imagine the sti after a trip to scoobysport? and if they supply a ppp to get the power back up, it should be well sorted, for about the cost of what rebel is paying for his wrx.
as i understand it, the sti has the stronger engine with forge pistons etc? i could be wrong on this. but surely the sti has the better 'base' engine for mods? just how far could u go with a wrx engine?

The STi7 may be down on power but at 261bhp its more than the 246 that you get with a PPP'd WRX.
Also you are going to get better brakes, better engine, better diffs etc and quickshift ;), better car in fact :D but it needs to be worked to get the best out of it, also there is the possibility of a PPP for it to boost it back upto its 280ps if not a little more :D
I would go for the STi rather than the WRX but its the buyers choice at the end of the day and if the buyer wants a WRX then the buyer can have one, its still a great car after all :D

STi wise they have always had the best bits on. Engine power may not be that different but you have to look at what underneath ie the STi suspension, engine internals, light weight bits and pieces etc etc. It eally depends what you are after. If you want to play at modifying you scoob then the STi is a better platform. If you just want to enjoy what you have then it may not be worth spending the extra.

Just my opinion though as someone with a hybrid WRX/STi ;),

like spudguns coment , wonder how far you could go with WRx compaired with the sti.
ultimately they are from one of the same. i would have thought!
just a bit futher down the modification track with the sti!

Thanks for the info guys. Well my brother did suggest the import, but I'm still a bit apprehensive. As well as not getting the 3 years warranty, they would probably want a large deposit, also the wait may be a bit longer. The annoying thing for me is the dealer in Crawley only offered my £9200 trade in on my 96P (33,000) Land Rover, so I decided to do my brother a favour and let him have it for the same price. He is chuffed and as it staying in the family I don't mind loosing a few sponds.
I have heard about the STI being much more powerful but I'm sure that I will enjoy this just as much.
When I get it on Friday I will need tips on running it in :)

Rebel 22 October 2001 01:11 AM

Another thing about imports I heard is increased service charges, while service is free on UK cars while on imports you'll probably pay double! Is this true?

scoobynutta555 22 October 2001 06:40 AM

why not forget about the newshape and get one of the few remaining P1s for £3000 more than what u are paying. I bought mine brand new for £29,000. You get the full 280 bhp with warranty.;)
