Scoobie Stu 11 October 2000 08:44 PM

I run a 1992 Legacy Turbo Saloon which is 197 bhp standard and 15.0 sec 1/4 mile,I stuck on a Pipercross induction kit and a 4" Mongoose exhaust which resulted in 229bhp and a 14.6sec 1/4,I then had the car chipped to 278bhp and got a 13.64sec 1/4 mile wastin an Impreza Catalunya in the process and also a nearly new Porsche Carrera 4S.
So now I have got a massive grin and prob one of the fastest Legacys in the country, just wondered what everyone else has run up the quarter coz we can talk power figures all day but proving it is something different.
Also does anyone else think that the 1.4bar boost that Superchips recommend is too much??

harj 11 October 2000 09:04 PM

Ive done 12.77 1/4 mile time at Santa Pod earlier in the year, my car has a genuine 300BHP. All Scoobies are capable of 13's or even sub 13's.

salsa-king 11 October 2000 09:14 PM

only got 15.2secs 93.2mph
standard 208 bhp Impreza, with S/S B/Box + K&N air kit fitted
but it was my first time at Santa Pod, would be into it more the next time i go!

P1 WR 11 October 2000 09:25 PM

hi.i id 13.8 with my my99uk turbo which has 1.1 turbo pressure, downpipe and full scorpion exhaust system.
is the superchip giving any damage to engine?
if not i will apply it on my car.

SCOTTY 11 October 2000 09:36 PM

Hi P1 WR,

I've heard some stories that Subarus respond badly to increased boost and that you should not fit the Superchips.

However, I had one on my last Scooby and I had no problems with it, it was worth the money and made a big difference to my car.

I took mine to Well Lane Turbo Centre at Batley nr Leeds. They did a power run on my car 1st which came out at 237bhp with only a Pipercross air filter and a full Mongoose exhaust system. After fitting the chip it came out at 278bhp but they turned the boost down a bit to be more safe and it was at 276bhp.

I was very pleased with it.

Scotty.

Col 11 October 2000 10:16 PM

I managed a 13.6 in my standard impreza (uk model) I have added an induction kit and
exhaust since then,so hoping to see an improvement next time.

Kevin2000 11 October 2000 10:28 PM

One thing I have noticed about Subarus is there doesnt seem to be the same engine tuning industry as there was with the cosworths. And dont say the engine doesnt need to me modified. You never hear of Subarus with 400-500bhp do you?
Regards
Kevo

By the way I really dislike all Fords and Mitsubishis in case any one thinks I am straying from the flock.

You guys need one of these...

Andrew Dixon 12 October 2000 10:30 AM

Managed a best of 13.9 sec on my day out at York Dragway in the summer. It was a blistering hot day which I'm sure did no favours for intercooler efficiency! My car's a MY97 4-door turbo with SS backbox, Magnex centre section and a K&N cone filter giving 251 bhp on Well Lane's rollers.

The last 'Run Wot Ya Brung' of the year at York is THIS SUNDAY and as it's cooler it'll be a good chance to get a good time! Hoping to get down to 13.5 sec and equal my mate's Sunny GTi-R quarter mile time. Limiting myself to 3 runs though as it puts a hell of a shock through the transmission.

Any tips for extracting those last 1/10ths of a second? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Andrew.

Cossie blocks are cast, Scoobies are alloy.

Cossies often got 500+ Bhp for about 1/2 a mile.

Cast blocks are stronger and can take more boost than alloy blocks.

Read somewhere that about 360Bhp is a good max for a scooby with out spending silly money.

CC 12 October 2000 02:08 PM

A three door Cosworth, up for sale recently at 8.3k (now sold), did the 1/4 mile in 11.78 seconds @ 350bhp.

Scott! 12 October 2000 02:18 PM

What you want is a Mk3 Golf .... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

1/4 mile time 11.47 secs at York Raceway recently Nice!

Slightly modded tho' 2 X VR6 Turbo engines!

Scott!

barge 12 October 2000 02:25 PM

A V12 Twin Turbo in a roller skate only doing the 1/4 in 11.47 seconds !!

That be poor that be

Subi Chick 12 October 2000 02:36 PM

Well, I haven't actually been timed. In a drag race against a VW GTI w/ cam, headers, exhaust, et.al. mods, my 01 RS w/ only an intake and a muffler won by a car length. The car it beat did 14.7's in the 1/4.
We're guessing that would put me at a 14.0.
I love my Scoob.

longun 12 October 2000 03:14 PM

Scott.

I think I've seen the golf in question but I saw it at santa pod and it ran 10.55....

Sky blue car with no interior at all just about 20 Dials and a steering column...

My car would probally run low 16's but mine ain't a scooby. (thats why the times cr@p)

Scott! 12 October 2000 03:56 PM

Yep, that's the one...

Claimed 800BHP - 400 each engine..

The creator wants to crack 200mph with it.. last attempt ended with a big hole in the block of the rear engine and the whole interior ( And driver ) sprayed with very hot engine oil... He was doing about 170mph at the time! Whoops!

Drove it home on the front engine, obviously handy to carry a spare!

Scott!

SWOLL 12 October 2000 04:17 PM

According to Motorcycle news, the Westfield Megabusa managed 9.8 secs. 1.5 secs quicker than a McLaren F1, and only 0.2 secs slower than the bike it gets its engine from. Now thats quick. And all for £13,500 (if you build it yourself)

chiark 12 October 2000 04:37 PM

Andrew: could you post more info on the Rung what ya brung this Sunday? I might see you there! Though I don't think I'll be dragging mine this time.

Stef 12 October 2000 06:42 PM

To keep Puff happy.... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
My best at The Pod is 13.2secs, standard car bar full Scorpion exhaust and K&N induction kit, approx 235bhp. Also have AP clutch, though did 13.3 with standard one. Not seen any UK car go quicker http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif .
Will go to the Pod one last time next month and try to get under 13 (with more power http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif ).

Stef.
