Removing side strips
 

So i decided it was time and took in as much advice as possible about tools to use and the technique. Started at 09:00 this morning and finished about half an hour ago!

Suffice to say, anyone looking to do this should make sure they have a full clear day because it takes a long time and a lot of effort.

Kit to use:

Hairdryer
Methalated Spirit
Auto Glym Tar Remover
Spray bottle
Lots of thick cotton cloths
Strong fingers

Mix equal parts of methalated spirit and auto glym tar remover and shake well. (I realise this sounds strange but did the small part by the front wheel arch with no heat and just meths and took fooking ages!)

Spray the strips thoroughly with the solution and go have a cup of tea.

After about 10-15 minutes you can get cracking.

Heat the leading edge of the strip until plyable and begin to pull away slowly.

Now continue easing the strip off applying heat to remove as much of the glue as possible with the strip. Trust me, it is a whole lot quicker and a lot less effort to take your time when taking the strip off than to have to scrub away at the residual glue afterwards.

Once the strip is removed, coat the residual glue with the meths/tar remover solution and with a thick cotton cloth start using some elbow grease!
Unfortunately the glue is VERY tough to remove and nothing but scrubbing is going to shift it.

To round everything off, wash the car and t-cut the area where the glue has been, unless you're like me and had to do the whole car. :D

why didnt you go to your local partco store and buy a decal removal wheel (a rubber wheel that looks and smells like caramac chocolate and fits in a drill chuck takes decals and glue of in one go an hour tops) they know them as caramel wheels

sorry reread your post only works with decals not rubber strips but does take the glue off (i know what you mean its a pain off a job )

Any chance I can have your old side strips?

P.S. you should try cellulose thinners.. will take it right off.
