so whos got what here? any other r33 owners?

Not me but two mates have
R34 580 bhp tuned by hiteq as seen on there website under previous projects
And a R33 450bhp -gone back to hiteq after(serious!) engine problems.

what was the problem with the r33? was it tuned somewhere else then sorted by hiteq?
my r33 tuning has experienced some 'hiccups'([img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]) but i think it'll work out.
as it happens, hiteq have done the ecu for it.we'll wait and see if its any good;)

R33 was rebuilt by Hiteq and tuned but i think it was the oil pump or something to do with the oil system that let go and the engine siezed.It has gone back to Hiteq.
My mates are good friends with the Hiteq boys but the owner of the R33 was a bit annoyed because it was something the should have picked up on when the car was being rebuilt!!
The car let go at the new Bedford Circuit,he managed to get no. 11 spot before the car gave way.

Might be joining you guys soon, as I'm looking at a GTR33 V-Spec that has belonged to a friend of mine since new. It's done 62K miles and is P-reg. FSH at Middlehursts every 6K miles and is absolutely standard. The car's been looked after very well mechanically, and just needs a bloody good clean. :)

Matt, I'm just trying to buy a skyline at the moment, and have found the one I want... could you drop me a mail with some idea of what your friend is selling his car for, just to give me an idea of what price these cars are actually selling for... Skylines seem to be taking a while to sell at the moment and so some are going for cheap prices, some are a bit pricer though.

Well, the deal has been done! Sometime in the next couple of weeks I should have a lovely R33 GTR V-spec! :D To say that I'm chuffed with the way the car drives is an understatement. It felt wonderful :D:D

It was a bit bizarre getting out of a 5 yr old Nissan into a 15 month old BMW, and finding that the Nissan felt better all round. Still, I guess that's why I'm buying it. ;)

I don't plan on going much past 400bhp to be honest, I still want a car I use daily and will manage above 15 mpg if I take it easy ;)

I thought getting to about 400bhp was fairly easy, with just Induction, Exhaust, ECU and possibly boost controller, and possibly Cams?

I'd like a car which is still usable daily, and has a fairly standard clutch!!! That said your 570bhp will be amazing I'm sure.

if it were a choice between a 400bhp skyline, and a 300bhp sti/evo,
i'd take the latter. they are much lighter, will give u more 'oomph', and are less 'tricky' in less than ideal conditions.
ive had an sti5, albeit briefly, and it was smashing. my girlfriend had the evo6...brutal, quick, and supremely safe.
not trying to put u off, u know i love skylines, but they are very demanding, both when driving and financially. if i did 20k miles a year like you, i wouldnt buy one....but then again;):D

I sold my heavily mod'd STI5 and bought an GT-R 33 back in Sept. IMHO the Skyline is much more comfortable to drive. You can spank it around using its red line (8000 rpm) and 1 bar, but on the other hand and this is where the STI wasn't so good, you can do long motorway runs and generally drive it around like a mondeo (if thats your bag).

So on that basis I have to disagree with Mr Spudgun sorry!

By the way Spudgun are you coming over to the Grasshopper next saturday 22nd? Should be 20+ Skylines there for the pre chrimbo meet!

I know what you mean about buying an expensive car "cheaply", but the one that I'm hoping to get is probably the best standard one I've ever seen. It's probably the only standard one I've ever seen come to think of it. It really is fantastic mechanically, and as it's not going to be modified it'll be fine.

The problem is that once you modify an old car, problems begin. I'd rather have 276 safe(ish) bhp, than 500 that constantly need looking after. And the car will be worth more (relatively) in the future if it's not been messed with.

are you seriously telling me you'd take the standard one????
my car is gonna be dyno'd properely soon at tuning japanese(clutch goes in on monday) , and its running like a dream. fuel consumption is no worse, starts first time, everytime, pootles along in traffic without fuss, but by god when i floor it....warp speed!:D
i wouldnt have a standard skyline, no way. 300ish bhp is useless for a car that size and weight.sure, it'll keep up with a scooby on a straight no problem, but on the twisties the scooby will leave it. thats why i want my car as quick as possible in a straight line, to get a head start:)
to me personally, the skyline is the ultimate. therefore i want it to be as quick as i can afford to make it. i do not want to be beaten by porsches:D

i still maintain i'd rather have an sti5 than a standard skyline.
we'll have to agree to disagree.
one thing we do agree on though, theres nowt much cooler than an r33, and nothing stops traffic as much.
nothing fills me with greater satisfaction than 'meeting' a 911 now and then.....and seeing their look of panic:D

I hear what you're saying mate. It's just that the one I'm getting has done 63,000 miles, and it's standard. I'm going to keep it that way, because IMHO, things such as turbos, pistons, bottom ends etc etc, are more delicate with this kind of mileage, regardless of how it's been driven. If I start piling the boost on without going steel internals on the turbos etc, it's gonna go bang

Sure, I'd love to turn it into a 500bhp beastie, but for me, 276 will do just fine. I'll just keep the cash I would have spent on tuning it for the odd service and a few years insurance.

Looking forward to my first grasshopper meet though! :D

Matt the car your buying will be at least 290 BHP in stock form. Just by replacing the standard panel fitler and removing the cat (keep it for MOT) you'll be running nearer 310 bhp. There is certainly no stress on the engine like you have mentioned and I keep all my power under control with a GReddy boost controller. I am running a larger HKS IC and a different air box and ecu on stock ceramic turbos. (390 bhp and as safe as houses)

Stop it! I can feel the credit card taking a hammering already! To be honest, I do fancy de-catting the downpipes and having a free breathing backbox on the car. Would probably change the air filter to a higher flowing panel jobbie too. We'll have to see what happens next year with work and things. :)

I`ve just bought an Evo6, totally standard apart from uprated brakes, as soon as the warranty runs out in July i`m heading straight to the nearest Blitz Nur Spec exhaust/HKS Suction Kit supplier i can find! ;)

400-420bhp is a perfect figure for the Skyline. You have buckets of power without compromising your drivability.
