MY03 STI Decat

Is there much power gain in removing the centre cat on an MY03 Sti UK.
Also, how much for a replacement pipe ?
One last thing, will the car still get through an mot without it ?
Cheers guys.
Nik

Have i asked a stupid question

Now I'm no expert, but I do know that most cars respond well to removing the cats.

However.........Your car will have a Cat in the downpipe too and as far as I know that is the one to remove for a big power gain.

I do know classics gain (mine did) about 25 bhp or so with a full de-cat after-market exhaust system, but how doing this affects things like the ECU on a MY03, I don't know.

As for the MOT, I think it will still pass with only the downpipe cat still in place, but it will need to be hot. It will not pass with both cats removed. You will need to find a "friendly" MOT station, or put the cat/s back in for the test.

If I'm talking crap, I'm sure someone will let us both know. ;)

Thanks for the response. I am keen to remove the cats but not so keen to put them back on for an mot as i'm not exactly mechanically gifted. Simple job as it is however, its still a pain getting under the car trying to take off rusted nuts and bolts. Might be best leaving as it is :wonder:

I thought the same....couldn't be bothered with the whole "climbing under the car every year" thing, so I found myself the other option!!

My car generally does very well at MOT's and has a similar emissions to an Astra. ;)
