Just seen the reply on eurosport....

Makkinen clipped the wall then ploughed into the cliff-face.....

Car flipped onto its roof teetering over the edge of a 100foot drop.... Makkinen got out but his co-driver was stuck in the car with back problems....... He was airlifted out and the car pulled back from the edge by a landrover.....

Tragic pics, and very bad news, they cancelled stage 5 because of it.

Hope he recovers.

Sky News mentioned that he'd crashed whilst I was at the gym tonight but didn't show any footage.

Sounds very nasty!

Lets be thankful all involved weren't more seriously injured.

That was a horrendous crash.

Glad he is okay........

#%&$#"!

We don't get any decent coverage here...

V. glad that he is OK - hope the co-driver is OK too. Hope he can fight the championship to the end!

Saw the in car and after math footage last night on Eurosport...oouch!!! Hit the rear tyre so hard it was on fire in the road! Bloody close to the edge. Co driver couldnt get out and they were worried about it being an Italian Job...move the person and the car goes over the edge!

Just seen this on eurosport.lucky guys to say the least.

We all love to see the crashes a spills where the only injury is to the drivers pride.

However, its crashes like these that really bring home how dangerous motor sport can be.

Hope that both driver & co.driver are ok.

just seen the footage - they had to leave the co-driver in the car until they'd stabilised the car by tying it to a landrover; then the co-driver was hoisted away by helicopter. The major concern, when Makinen, was interviewed was if the co-driver had a serious back injury - didn't report what the outcome was, tho'.
