Where for reasonable quality clothing....

So there is now an abundance of clothing on the highstreet at a very good price and thats great for the consumer.................perhaps.
Having looked round the 'standard' BHS DEB' M&S recently tho, apart from theyre 'instore'designer names......the quality doesnt seem to be there anymore. Is this simply becuase they HAVE to buy from China too in order to stay afloat/appease their shareholders. Or am i just imagining it.?

Jamescsti 21 March 2006 04:06 PM

I bought a couple of Summer shirts from Next recently, and that was after trawling round the various "designer" shops in central Leeds of which there are plenty.
Was impressed with Next and I don't normally go there at all, I usually think it's over hyped, but it's worth a look at the moment

2000TLondon 21 March 2006 04:49 PM

To be honest I have never considered BHS or Debenhams to be quality.

I walked through BHS on Oxford Street last year and they had a MACHINE WASHABLE SUIT for ninety nine pounds. Enough said!!!!! :lol1:

I once went in to Debenhams to get some jeans that I could tear up for a fancy dress party!

ChefDude 21 March 2006 05:18 PM

some people aren't bothered or can't afford 'better' quality.

Brun 21 March 2006 05:32 PM

Matalan suits me :)
I always get years out of my clothes. Top Man, next etc are others i use but to be honest i can't remember the last time i bought any clothes.
I am possibly Scoobynet's most un fasionable person and don't give a fcuk.

Brun - presently sat in 8 year old tracky bottoms and a 5 year old t-shirt :p

GC8 21 March 2006 05:53 PM

Brun; are you a park drinker? Do you shout at passing cars?

:)

Brun 21 March 2006 05:55 PM

Pub drinker and am usually in the car :p

dpb 21 March 2006 06:01 PM

8 years out of those mentioned is impressive..:Suspiciou

Brun 21 March 2006 06:46 PM

The mentioned trackys are worn 5 days a week, every week for work and are washed every weekend. They look a touch faded but are holding together quite nicley :D

GC8 21 March 2006 06:59 PM

You wear the for five days running? Mate; its just the stubborn understains thats still holding them together!

StickyMicky 21 March 2006 07:09 PM

jesus, wear once and i have to have the item cleaned

or they feel "wrong"

apart from my uniform for work thats done every 2/3 days

Brun 21 March 2006 07:22 PM

They feel more comfy after a couple days wear ;)
My normal clothes get worn once or twice at most then into the wash so i ain't that scruffy :D

...yeah, maybe i am :D

Totally agree with you m8. Only change the undies when
1. they start to crackle.
2. The dogs eyes water when he sniffs my crotch.
3. The wife threatens to divorce me taking half the money:cry:

I suspect Brun et al have come to symbolise what the market will stand and what it must provide and thus the likes M&S BHS will no longer be able to provide reasonable quality.......

2000TLondon 21 March 2006 08:30 PM

You should write to the makers of those tracksuit bottoms, there's an advertising deal in there somewhere! :D

dpb 21 March 2006 08:55 PM

Thanks ...:)
However this is the exact same 'inducement' every shop in the high street puts out - and reflects little on quality of the garment

dpb 21 March 2006 08:59 PM

I may have been a little derisory towards Brun...
Ive never actually been to Mataland....:)

Brun 21 March 2006 11:29 PM

Damn right!Quality is in the gutter but not just due to
"afloat their shareholders",but also to compete with the competitors and make the most of the new range.Profit margin has to go as far as poss for the penny pinchers:rolleyes:
M&S,Debs and BHS are considered to be mid-range gear anyway.
Go to Bennaton(sp.) or Vaughan Davies or,Daniel Hatcher.Don't kill me if you don't find trendy clothing there.Trendy is Gap but it is pants in quality.
Try D2 if you got it around you for  trends.
Cheap n cheerful:D

The most confusing thing is i bought a £7 pair of good material and innovative design jeans in PRIMARK can you believe it ........

Turbohot 22 March 2006 12:29 AM

No,mate. They will split when you fart after a good curry:( :lol1:
Primark n peacock etc are sh!te.
But I know what you mean.Next etc are only tad batter then them.
However, today is about using the trends and chucking it away/recycling it for the new ones. You may as well go with the flow.

:D

dpb 22 March 2006 12:38 AM

No they were good material ..!- but a one off of course ...
and theres the thing i will not spend 45 notes..( and chuck em away in no time) on something that is ..
A. not resaonable quality
b. reasonable innovative

bigsinky 22 March 2006 02:08 AM

im pretty much limited to places that do my size :D

Even if it wasn't a one off,it's wiser to pay less for passing trends/casuals rather than spending stupid amount on them for just a "one up" quality.
