exhaust complaint from a neighbour

Just come home from work and had a run in with one of the neighbours she said she is fed up with the noise of my car! And she said i wake her husband and the kids when i come home from work i work afternoon shifts. I live in a quiet cul de sac any recommendations of a quiet backbox i have an afterburner vortex on my car at the moment

pslewis 19 March 2006 11:06 PM

The standard one is designed to avoid all this kind of stuff .... recommended!

Pete

Don't bother with a quiet back box..... Buy your neighbours some ear defenders!!! :thumb:

CAT2 19 March 2006 11:09 PM

I've got a Magnex backbox and otherwise standard system, which I think sounds nice, but it's not too loud. I live in a quiet street and have had no complaints.

cookstar 19 March 2006 11:12 PM

Have an exhaust bung made :thumb:

Tim W 19 March 2006 11:14 PM

All of the aftermarket systems increase the noise level over the factory fit system, including the Prodrive backbox.

The quietest non standard system I've heard yet has been the Revolution system...but by this I mean it was quiet enough to pass Bedford Autodromes strict limits, but it's still quite loud compared to the stock peas shooter.

If you want something that looks better than the somewhat pathetic pea shooter effort yet is as quiet look for a back box of a standard Sti

Got a ScoobySport full system. Had a few comments about noise but nothing too serious.
Don't really care what my next door neighbour says as we don't talk much anyway (they're really noisy people anyway - door banging etc)

Don't worry mate, if it's too loud they're too old!!!!

Would speak to whoever supplied you the exhaust, failing that speak to Haywood and Scott and they should be able to make you one :)

I personally wouldn't bother! if you work afternoons then her husband and kids shouldn't be so bloody lazy :cuckoo:

Stick to your guns! your within legal limits for noise so wheres the problem :thumb:

My "afternoon" shift is from 1400 - 2200, not sure what his times are but 10pm is a bit late for kiddies :)

furrydice79 20 March 2006 12:12 AM

yes an exhaust bung is definately the way to go mate,,, there really easy to fit. as soon as she opens her gob again, u simply ram the bung in there, it should hold tight and after that i reckon u wont have anymore problems...:)

Fair comment :thumb: but unless they have really thin walls it wouldn't wake up kids ... My ex used to have a blitz Nurspec and he never used to wake up the kids:eek:

I'd also recommend a scoobysport back box - the 3inch exit, not the Jap style. I found it much quieter than my old 4 1/2 inch jap style on tickover, low revs and on motorway cruising, but still retains the burble and sounds excellent when I boot it. I think it's a nicer sound all round to be honest, maybe I'm too old ! lol

Have the Scoobysport full system on my car as well - it is loud when revving and has a nice deep tone, but at the sort of revs you should be using to pull up in the street its no louder than my neighbours work van ( little Escort diesel thing ).

jonjo 20 March 2006 08:55 AM

tell her while you are sleeping and the kids are going to school screaming and shouting that they are waking you up!!! do a deal if she gets rid of the kids then you get rid of the exhaust.... :D

(just kiddin about getting rid of the kids before anyone starts)

My thoughts exactly where my neighbour's concerned. We've put up with him revving his motorbikes at all hours of the day and night for years now so I'm glad we can finally get our own back. :thumb:

MaDaSS 20 March 2006 10:52 AM
