Beginners guide to website designing?

I fancy having a go at designing my own website so what software can you recommend a complete beginner thats never done it before?

Are there any websites that teaches how to design a website?

Hi mate. You're going to get 2 answers to your first question from most people - Frontpage or Dreamweaver. I would strongly recommend Dreamweaver over Frontpage for a novice plus Dreamweaver (owned by Macromedia) have lots of support sites if you do a Google on them etc. (their own site is fairly good for support and ideas as well).

Design is fairly easy to do as a DIY first timer but when you start getting really clever (or if you are particulary artistic) then get yourself a copy of illustrator (Adobe) or Photoshop (Adobe again) for the artwork side of things.

The other option of course is to buy an off the shelf template and customise yourself in Dreamweaver. Templatemonster.com is a good starting place...

Hope this helps.

Thats a good starting point.

I'm not after anything fancy just a bit of text and images.

Something that allows the viewer to click on an image then the page loads in to anotherr page up. If that made sense. :D

I'm a few weeks down the road from you Ray.
I got a copy of Dreamweaver off ebay for a tenner, and a book from WHSmith. It takes a while to get used to dreamweaver but once you do, simple sites are pretty easy. Most of it is done with tables, inserting pics/text etc.
Trial and error is the best teacher and a bit of advice on here.

Any questions,just ask.

You can create html files with later versions of Word if you already have this on your machine.

Just save the word doc using SAVEAS an select the web format
