Flashed at unfairly?

Last week I went past a camera doing about 20-22mph cos I was stuck behind a van and the bugger flashed at me as if I was speeding! I was definately not cos I checked my speed as I was passing through. Has anyone else been flashed at and got a letter saying they were or flashed at and not heard anything?? Ive never heard of this before and now Im a bit worried I'm gonna get a letter and a fine for doing 20mph!!!!

Any offers?

Was there traffic coming towards you? If so it might have picked up one of them. I've seen it happen a couple of times.

No this camera only picks ip the lane I was in. the van was going slow too so I def wasnt speding. I dont get it!! I'm gonna contest it all the way if anything happens!

The camera should take two photos a short period (1/2 second?) apart, and the main evidence against you is the distance travelled (as judged by the markings on the road) in that time. If you really were travelling at 20mph, you shouldn't get done.

Like scud says, they check the 2 pics to see how far you have travelled, thats why there are white lines on the road, they are distance markers.

I am very confident you will hear no more about it!

Happens sometimes....i was driving along the A4 last night and the camera on the other side of the road went off....there wasn't a car in sight!!! Probably just a glitch and even if it do go off properly and take a photo, when it gets processed it'll show there's been a mistake....i wouldn't worry about it

this has happened to me about 3 times now... never got a fine for it! Phew!

and do you know what speed the scam is set to flash at??

as we have no proof what the setting is, i too would err on a lower speed,

why dont you blast through them at 30 :D and when you get all 12 ticks in the box, you can confirm that either the scam is set low, or your speedo,s out

Mart :D:D

Had this once before on a 50mph stretch of road... i could see the camera was flashing at everybody in front, so people started slowing down. By the time i went past the line of traffic was doing about 20mph and the thing was still flashing like crazy.

Unsurprisingly i never heard a thing from the fuzz :D

Tony.

Cameras can be set off by cars going in the opposite direction, there's one near me I've set off a few times. It's just as a 60 limit changes down to 30 coming in to town, so people are accelerating in to the 60 limit when going the other way and it goes off if you're doing over about 40mph.

There's no lines on the road so they can't prove your speed, so I think it's probably just a 'warning shot' kinda thing.

High sided vehicles (vans, trucks) have a tendancy to set Gatso's off when going <20mph.... it's a well known problem.

Used to do it in my works van on the way to work, slow down to less than 20 helping empty that all important film :)

scoobyboy1 12 March 2006 05:08 PM

Didnt think they could do you if there are 2 vehicles in the picture.

nathanb 12 March 2006 05:49 PM

So none of you have had a letter then for getting flashed and not speeding?

s70rjw 12 March 2006 08:37 PM

Whats the point in worrying until you get the NIP?

Matt ATR22 13 March 2006 01:54 AM

Some of them are set to flash every 30 secs or so regardless of whether there is any traffic - mate lived near one in Sunderland and you could see the flash through his curtains in the middle of the night!
