Completely takes all the fun out of driving backwards;)

clutdav 10 March 2006 10:56 AM

I got medium tints all round as i personally don't like having the back windows tinted and the fronts not.

THey are 30% tints - so just on the verge of being illegal, but they look good IMHO.

heres mine, with a before and after..
not entirely sure of the %, but thinks its 35 on the back and rear with 30 on the front and 35 on the sunstrip. could be wrong, but silver scooby sport might point you in the right direction as he had similar done to mine.
the pictures dont really give you a great view, but you get the idea :)

Why run with tints on fronts, knowing that they can invalidate your insurance?

davedipster 10 March 2006 07:07 PM

Because people dont know/care I suppose.
Pull out on someone from a junction with tints on your front windows, and you could face a large settlement claim when your insurance company voids your policy.

concerned dipster.

mgscooby 10 March 2006 07:55 PM

laod of crap

that statement is the biggest load of crap ive herd, i have 30%tints on the front legal limit and limo on rear, all fitted with pentagon sequrity film (anti smash) all declared to the insurance company and actualy ruduced my insurance.

Dspeed 11 March 2006 12:07 AM

I want 30 % on mine all round to but Im afraid to say that the law has now changed to a max of 13% infront of the A pillar.

STi-Frenchie 11 March 2006 12:15 PM

No idea on the percentage, I just asked for darker on the back than on the front and I got this:

Calm down, I dont think that was aimed at you but those who have illegal tints.

Front windows should allow at least 70% light through. If you are within that limit then you'll be fine.

Bearing in mind the legislation changed because a motorcyclist was deemed to have been killed, in part due to the limited vision the car driver had due to tinted windows.

The law makes sense and I cant say I sympathise with those who choose to break it.

Bob

mgscooby 11 March 2006 01:13 PM

fair point bob, my car is within the laws and was carried out by the market leader on auto glass? it just seems that as soon as someone posts on SN about some mod etc, everyone jumps on and gives false info ref: if you have front tints then you are breaking the law!!!!. instead of giving the actual max tints you are alowed,

drumsterphil 11 March 2006 01:25 PM

Mine - 20% rear/back , 30% fronts -

cmpequeno 11 March 2006 07:29 PM

can someone tell me if it's very dificult to put the tint in the rear glass? thanks

mgscooby 11 March 2006 07:39 PM

I personally would not attempt to do it myself.... The place that did mine still managed to break my rear screen ( I have the rear wiper in the glass ) when they removed it for tint, and they do it for a living.

furrydice79 11 March 2006 08:34 PM

are these too drk?

cmpequeno 12 March 2006 06:08 PM

I think it's nice and the scooby lowered like that looks great.

Major_Sarcasm 12 March 2006 06:38 PM

Here's mine.

Pretty sure it's illegal as the fronts are as dark as the rears. I bought the car like that and haven't got round to removing the fronts. Shame really, but the point about insurance is well taken. Must do that this week :(

cmpequeno 12 March 2006 07:26 PM

like I asked before, do you really need to remove the rear glass or you can remove only the rack where you install the speakers?

looks good MS, how is the visibility?

Not great out the front to be honest, which is the 2nd reason I was going to remove the fronts. The rear visibilty isn't so bad. Driving at night, in the rain is the worst, going round corners is a bit dicey as side visibility is compromised, difficult to see dark objects (like pedestrians).

My god calm down m8, I bet your car looks very cool indeed.
I'm only concerned that people could get in deep trouble, if someone got injured or god forbid killed.
My worry is that as Scoobs and most new cars today have a tint in the side glass from the factory, then adding even a 30% WILL make your car illegal with the hassle this brings if you have a serious accident.

I will keep my concerns to myself in the future.

Dipster.

Did not do the tints to look cool, I have 3 kids and also have to use the car occasionally for work, so it was practical, and it did bring my insurance down because I paid to have it done with anti-smash tint film within the current legal limits. I got defensive cos your statement implied that everyone with tints 'dont know or dont care'. My car is the family car so it has to be 100% legal, please dont tar us all with the same brush.

Dazza01 13 March 2006 10:16 AM

Here's mine, Limo on the rear screen and sides and 30% on front which is also legal done by www.execspec.co.uk and click on http://www.execspec.co.uk/legal.asp to read the current laws on tinting
