p1 MAF

can anyone tell me if the Maf on a 2000 p1 is as bad as the ones on the 99,

my car sometimes when approaching red lights and you come to a stop the idle needle will come down to 300rpm and go back up to 800 and stay there,
it only does this occasionally,

what could be the problem, my car has standard air box

im just concerned it may be the maf, any way of testing? cars only done 35k

how much does one cost if it is the maf?

what should be the first point of call?

if its the original one then its worth replacing anyway got mine from br developments when i had it remapped. think it was about £70.
ken

MAF will be exactly the same for all MY99 to last of the classics onward.
This includes JDM and UK cars.

Part No 22794AA010 and around £75.

If you hav ethe standard air box etc the MAF should NOT be playing up and if it was you would expect it to hunt the rev range alot not just when you stop!

Do you have an after market Dump Valve fitted?? these can cause issues

Davey P 10 March 2006 01:39 PM

The MAF's can still fail even with a standard air box, mine did!

Stealth 10 March 2006 01:59 PM

yeah the MAF can fail I'm just saying it SHOULDN'T and that it is more likely to be something else....

I think the car would play up a bit more than a near stall...... it will hunt and all the other stuff.... best thing to do if you are worried is ask a mate if you can borrow his for testing and see if it cures your ills mate!

cheers for that guys,

today i have driven it and its been fine no problem at all,

could it have been the fact that ive just had the front bumber re-sprayed and they disconnected the battery for a couple of days, could this have reset the ecu,

now it seems fine you see?

im gonna get a knock link fitted,,,, any suggestions where to buy one from

thanks

Mine (MY99) has just started doing this immediatly after a 7.5k service yesterday, was dropping revs to around 500 rpm and then bouncing back up to around normal 800ish rpm when slowing down and coming to a stop. Initially thought it may have been that the garage had done an ECU reset but decided today to do a reset myself. I got the all clear fron the CEL with no fault codes. Just had the car out for a spirited run;) and it seems much better only dropped revs once and is idling as it was pre-service. I am getting no knocklink activity anywhere in the rev range and it is set to full sensitivity. I am going to keep an eye on it and check over the engine this afternoon and clean the boost solenoid out etc and keep a close eye on it just incase it is the early stages of MAF failure!

Keep us updated and let us know if you find out what it is.

My MY99 is doing the same and i have an aftermarket dump valve, will keep an eye on this thread to see if there are anymore suggestions to what it can be !!

cheers

Has the DV just been fitted?
I only ask, because some need adjusting when they have been fitted to the car.

roscow 11 April 2006 05:36 PM

Was on car when i bought it so dont know but it doesnt happen all the time but just worried incase its the MAF about to go, how do you adjust the DV ?

p1mark 11 April 2006 05:49 PM

Maf is the same.

I had one go with a standard air box, and it was not hunting every day, just now and again. changed it and back to perfect tick over.

If you are unsure of its age, just change it anyway and be done worrying!

Ayde 11 April 2006 08:46 PM

Think I am going to change mine to be on the safe side, it is the original maf from new and to be honest I am suprised it has lasted so long! Had the maf out this afternoon - no contamination on it, looks like a new one but better to be safe than sorry!

Ayde 18 April 2006 09:08 PM

Right got the new maf today - £82 with CADS discount from Holdcroft Cheshire. Fitted it (5 min job) - reset the ecu and....................... car is back to normal now and running much better/smoother!:)
