Astra TD / TDi Query ????
 

Am looking at getting an Astra Estate (1999 onwards) for lugging the usual house crap about and was wondering which is the one to go for, the 1.7 or the 2.0 DTi and have heard there are two types of engines so which one should i be looking at as i wanna get one to keep for a while.

Any advice gratefully accepted.

What about Vectra 2.2 estate?

Bigger, cheaper, yup, more toys, probably yup. Define "better" though. Vectra of that age will drive like it's got slinky springs for suspension and string for steering.

I know it's maybe not the object to get the ultimate driving machine here but if it were Vectra vs Astra, I'd take the Astra unless I needed the space.... In which case I'd look at Mondeos and Lagunas first.

We probably fundamentally disagree on cars then - cos Laguna's are amongst the single most ****e cars ever made.

Raz - test drive them, both efficient and strong engines. cheap and cheerful honest cars.

Thanks for the replies but i still need to know which one in the Astra range to go for, ie. the 1.7 or 2.0, the td or the DTi ????????????? the Vauxhall or the Isuzu engine ??????????

You're not going to buy a car based on what somebody on scoobynet tells you is the one to go for surely??

Test drive both, draw your own comclusion.

The DTi is an excellent engine but when the injector pump breaks expect a £1500 bill :(
The Izuzu engine is a bit more agricultural and then the Fueling ECU breaks expect a £900 bill :(
Go and buy a VW/Skoda/Seat Diesel if you can :)
