Lancia Delta Evo ?

Spotted this cheeky little number near work. You don't see many of these where i live, and i thought it was a bit of a minter. can anyone tell which variation this is ?

I read a buying guide once, pretty much concluded it was a gamble when buying :(

EddScott 03 March 2006 04:39 PM

I would say its an EVO1

The EVO2s had wing back type Recaros

Prices are actually a bit steep but it is a rally icon afterall. Think EVO1s start at 9ish for a sh$tter and EVO2s at about 12k. Prices might be old becuase I looked at these ages ago.

Demand love and affection even more than scoobs IIRC.

Would kill for an EVO2 in Lagos Blue or the dark green they do. Only car that seems to fit yellow paint too.

Hardest thing is finding somewhere that will look after it properly. Think the well known place for these cars has a reputation and not all good but its all what I've read.

GazTheHat 03 March 2006 04:47 PM

lOOks like an EVO1 to me too. I had the martini special edition one, what a car. I bought a classic scoob afterwards with 275bhp and it felt slow in comparison. They require a lot of TLC though. There's always something niggly going wrong, which i had enough of.

Miles and Miles of smiles!!

You could ask the Walker Group, they're the Lancia Meccas.

Pumpkin 03 March 2006 04:51 PM

J plate integrale will be an Evo 1.

Buy a good one, and be prepared to spend money properly keeping it good and they will last. Treat is with some respect and it will do the same.

Buy a dog and you'll save initially but live to regret it.

There are a small group of specialists dotted around the country - Walkers, John Whalley, L&M, Omicron, Tanc Barrett, Auto Integrale.

The big problem is that FIAT are discontinuing parts for these cars so getting some things is going to get tricky shortly.

Looks like buying a car for spares then...
Tanc Barrett is a good source of OEM parts I believe.

Got one of these car's traded in a Scooby for my Evo and the Scooby was considerably newer. There's no comparison the Grale is much more a drivers car and for that reason faster as the car just gives you confidence in the corners. As to taking your car to a specialist I've owned mine for 4.5 years and in that time I've only taken it to a specialist once when I blew up the gearbox lol. But all the work done on my car is buy my local Garage if you have a Garage you trust and they don't take the piss keep using them it only a car after all. And compared to modern cars were everything is controlled buy a computer the Grale is basic. Tony
Some pics of my car.

Love those cars

Rob16v 06 March 2006 04:24 PM

It's an Evo 1. Evo 2s have colour-coded rain gutters and 16" wheels. Plus the Recaro highbacks mentioned earlier (although they are a popular retro fit if you can find them). Remember the Evo 2s have a cat and the smaller non-homologation turbo.

Quite simply the best driver's car you will ever lay your hands on. You have to try one to appreciate it. Everything else will seem soggy and uninvolving by comparison.

For maintenance, Tanc is good, as are Auto Integrale in Reading. Avoid Walkers. And don't listen to cr*p about LHD only, rust and reliability. These were hand-built and, properly maintained, the engine will take up to 300bhp all day long. But don't buy a cheap one or try to run it on a shoe string. These ain't hot hatches; they are proper Italian supercars and need to be treated as such.

I've owned mine for five years now, done numerous trackdays + the Ring and wouldn't swap it for anything! Come and see us over at:

No vids, but there's some picks here of me in the pouring rain at Donington the other week:

...worth a look for the guy smashing his M3 to bits. After I passed him, by the way :0)

Whos is the black scooby in the scooby section of the same pics then, I saw that parked outside a local hotel a month or so ago

Nice pics btw, feel sorry for anyone who does that on a track day, expensive

Mongo 06 March 2006 05:12 PM

Strange old cars really. You can buy a dog and throw money at it good after bad, or buy a minter and not.. A friend of mine has one. Done 24k in as many months and has only paid for general wear and tear and servicing...

Got to be sooo carefull in what you choose. Go to a renowned dealer like Tanc Barratt, imports have little or no service history although might have been (italian tax laws).

The one at the top looks like an Evo 1, has 5 stud hubs like the 1+2's and equal size headlights.. The real difference between the 1+2 is the size of the wheels

Rob16v 07 March 2006 10:03 AM

Mine's the red one with the FE stripe.

The guy in the black Scooby wasn't that quick, even on the straights. But you're right, it isn't nice to see somebody stacking it into the tyre wall. The marshals told us later they took the plates off in the paddock and did a runner...

I would argue the biggest difference between the Evo 1 & 2 is the turbo. The tiddler fitted to the 2 is less laggy for street use, but can't keep up with the 1 or even the earlier 16v once chipped.

The single most important thing you MUST do when buying one of these is get it inspected by a specialist. The AA won't know what to look for. Most charge £100-odd for this and, believe me, it's the best £100 you will ever spend...

Hi,

I've just registered on here, no sooner had I done that when I spotted my car! The Evo is mine, not quite sure where you took the picture - just off Abbeydale Road?

Anyway, thanks for the nice comments, it is an awesome car. It's an Evo I for confirmation but has the Evo II 16" wheels. If you're interested in getting one I would (obviously) recommend it. Buy a good one and look after it and it'll give you miles of enjoyment.

I was curious if anyone from this area knows of a light blue new Impreza (type D possibly?) from the Wentworth area. Had a great drive following in the Grale (5 up with my wife, her sister, mum and dad!) last saturday. Don't think they've been quite the same since:lol1:

Brun 18 September 2006 09:48 PM

Ok, i give up - what car are you driving?
