I've noticed that on cold startup my car pumps out white smoke for about 5-10 seconds. It also smells pretty 'petrolly'. There's nothing else and once the smoke clears it doesn't come back at any other point.

It's an MY98 with exhaust and HKS induction.

Reason I ask is that it's in for a warranty job at the garage next week and I am wondering if I should get them to check anything else as it's staying overnight to prove the clutch judder (hopefully).

Second question: What's the opinion on the Subaru extended warranty. My car is becoming kind of mid-modded and I don't want to spend £600 for them to refuse claims based on changes once I've chipped and had it re-mapped etc.

Thanks a lot

Laurence

Please, it's in on Monday and I just want to know whether to speak to the dealer or not...

If you are modding the car I would forget the IM extended warranty, there have been numerous postings on this - try a search for more info.

Thanks, that's pretty much what I though. Looks like I'll go for the extended Subaru Assist and save the rest for later.

Now does anyone have an answer to my smoke question?

The Smoke

I have this ever since I decatted the scoob. I was told by the dealer that it is a build up of condensate and is effectivly an oily steam. It is usually trapped by the cats you would usually see it as small quantities of fluffy white smoke as the engine warms up.. When you decat you tend to see it as a large quantity..

As I say that is was my dealer told me and I was told not to worry. I suppose I am lucky as I have a decat friendly dealer.

Well that's a relief. At least it's not going to blow up ;)

Thanks
