Gary / Gutmann pug says (on general):
===========================

My own two pennith is that I tried Toyo's and F1 GSD3's and found them to be much of a muchness. If I had the car out of shape because of these tyres I would have been driving like an idiot and didnt deserve the keys.

I also used Dunlop SP Sport race on-track and these performed well as semi slick road legal soft tyres.........

Hankook Ventus Sport 104's for me.

Much better than Toyo T1-S's (which I rate as downright dangerous in the wet). Goodyear F1's have amazing grip in the wet and the std Pirelli Assimetricos aren't too bad considering they're OEM.

RRH 01 March 2006 06:00 PM

I'm running T1-R, far superior to T1-S, but the Eagle F1s are better, only by a very small margin. You have to be a bit more careful with your pressures with the T1R that the Eagle F1s- you can get away with murder with them, they're that good.

MBK 01 March 2006 06:05 PM

All round everyday use - MICHELIN Pilot Sport 2's

On track/dry - Bridgestone Potenza RE070, a recent driving adventure showed me the benefits of these tyres and evo magazine seem to agree this month on the new 2.5 STi too!

Negatives - Potenza RE040, didn't last long, poor in the wet and only average in the dry! Why do they fit them standard??

gaz c 01 March 2006 06:45 PM

i had 4 pirelli p6000 fitted 4 weeks ago (205/50/16). im very pleased with them so fare. the road noise is a lot quieter than the yokos i had on before them.:thumb:

Pulling away from a junction, not quickly, but quick enough if you're joining traffic, it will spin the wheels in second and will keep on spinning them until you lift off.

That's on a heavy fwd car with about 105bhp. I wouldn't let a scobby even look at them

I don't see how you can count this as a vote against Goodyear for a Scoob! :Suspiciou 'Stupid I...' used them on a mundaneo and is surmising that from his driving with them on a completely different car that they will not suit an Impreza (Scobby?)... :freak3: Bizzare :Whatever_

Anyway my vote is for goodyear Eagles I have now had 2 sets 1st GSD2s and now GSD3s...

Both excellent in all weathers:luxhello:

T1R's on my WRX here. Only got the Bridgestones that came with the car to compare them with but seem to work as well if not better :thumb:

scoobysmiff 01 March 2006 07:38 PM

T1R's work well enough for me, have used F1's as well with out any probs, they were awesome in the wet mind :-)

Dreds 01 March 2006 09:02 PM

Definately Michelin Pilot Sport 2's. Great in any road condition.

Daz1121 01 March 2006 09:18 PM

My vote has to be for the Toyo T1R's as they are an amazing all round tyre with grip in the wet almost as good as when in the dry.

anthscooby01 01 March 2006 10:31 PM

Goodyear F1s best Ive tried. Big no to Bridgestone Potenzas which should have health warning on them!!!

crispyduck 01 March 2006 10:44 PM

Goodyear F1s were much better in the wet and dry than standard issue tyres. Comment applies to MY00 and my current MY03 WRX Imprezas.

Goodyear F1s every time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MarkFitz 01 March 2006 11:52 PM

You won't regret trying the Goodyear Eagle F1's. For all-weather road use it's hard to find anything else that offers such a well balanced package. You'll find other makes that will outperform the GY's in terms of absolute traction and cornering force but they tend to be so stiff that there's little warning as to when you hit the limit of adhesion.
The feedback from the GY's is really progressive so you get loads of advance warning before the car finally starts to break off into understeer. Dead handy if you don't know the road or if you've overcooked your entry speed.

GoodYear F1 GSD3 83Y splitting dangerously on inner sidewalls (all 4!).

215/40/17 - Avoid

corradoboy 02 March 2006 10:15 AM

Bridgestone RE040 - On car when I got it (well, 2 were  ), very average tyre with no redeeming features. Do the job, that's all :nono:

Yokahama 539 - The other 2 that were on the car when I got it, plus I have used them before on my previous car. Bloody awful tyre, with reasonable dry and wet grip, but truly appauling in damp conditions. Misty, dewey mornings could be exciting  :nono:

Vredestein Sportrac - Very good all round general road tyre, apart from excessive wear to centre on track. The 2 distinct bands in the middle of the tread can be easily ripped to pieces when drifting on a concrete surfaced hairpin. Good wet or dry on road :thumb:

Bridgestone RE070 - Absolutely awesome in the dry. Adds 20mph to cornering speeds in warm dry weather. Very nervous in the wet, especially if you stray onto a white line. Rigid sidewalls give pronounced tramlining and a harsh ride :notworthy

Vredestein UltraC - Fantastic tyre. Very good in the wet and superb in the dry. I'd say 95% of the RE070 dry grip, but with Toyo/F1 wet grip, along with superb wear rate. My next tyre for sure, and at very reasonable prices  :notworthy

Toyo T1S - Very good all 'round, wet or dry with progressive break away. Soft compound looks to be wearing quickly especially on inside edges (requiring f to r rotation regularly) :thumb:

COF139 02 March 2006 11:18 AM

Goodyear Eagle F1's now fitted to STI 8.....transformed the car from when the Bridgstone RE040's were on it....tramlining all but disappeared.

Cosmic37 02 March 2006 11:44 AM

coolgrey sti made the following contribution (copied from general board):
=============================================
Vredestein Ultrac, not widely available but what a brilliant tyre. Better than the Avon ZZ3s I had before and they were good. The Ultrac is so grippy in the dry and just cuts through wet roads. Anyone else tried them ?

Glad someone else has tried these. I was beginning to wonder if my opinion was wrong and I had been somehow deluded :lol1:

Cosmic37 02 March 2006 02:05 PM

Thanks to all the tyre voters so far!!! :thumb:
I have just bought my Scooby a nice set of four Goodyear Eagle F1s.
But, just to show this exercise has not been totally selfish I promise to keep adding up the votes on tyres every so often so we can keep a running tally on the Wheels, Tyres and Brakes forum. :D
I can confirm that I won't be posting like a maniac on the general board any more - its just to hectic!!! :hjtwofing

Goodyear eagle F1's - nothing like them for all round performance - amazing wet grip. just ordered my 6th set.

Agree with Bob, same experience, but add that I've had no problems with 87 or above ratings and 91XL seem to have slightly stiffer sidewalls.
Not worth risking in the size he quotes, Goodyear say that isn't a recommended spec/size combination for Impreza Turbos.

F1s in 205/50/16 87 or above and 215/45/17 91XL:

+ Superb grip wet and dry, predictable handling, forgiving breakaway, no tramlining, quiet. reasonable prices.
- Slightly vague feeling on the straight, not the most 'direct' of tyres....often better with a little more air in them, particularly in summer. Minor points.

Can only compare with variety of OE Bridgestones (and some Nokian winter tyres but I won't go into that).
Miles better IMHO that Bridgestones in all respects except a little less responsive. Very confidence inspiring.

stu_5 02 March 2006 07:30 PM

I'm going to vote for the F1 too, had mine on the car for 15k miles now and no problems at all with them- still plenty of wear left on them as well.

Progressive when it starts to lose grip with plenty of feedback. Best tyres I've had in the wet in addition.
