Ok, Car is due for service soon, thinking it might be an appropriate time to 'add' to the performance :)
Now, I have had it suggested that I fit the K&N panel filter replacement .. then it was suggested I fit the K&N 57i induction kit .. and apparently I should change the exhaust ;) I want extra power, an appreciable growl.. but not the sheer noise... I like listening to music as well hearing the sweet sounds of the horses... so suggestions, explanations, feedback please.... Edited for late night spelling and grammer ;) [Edited by necromax - 10/18/2001 1:20:17 AM] |
Well if you actually want power then the only thing that makes a big difference of those things is a downpipe. Then changing the boost/ECU somehow. Backboxes and filters make negligible difference.

Hi John, thanks for that. I do believe I saw you fitted the 57i kit recetly .. are you not impressed with the results? Does the 57i kit replace the panel filter, or just add to it?

The 57i replaces the airbox with a cone filter and some new piping. Is easy to fit yourself with Chiark's wonderful guide. The noise is interesting, but my wife doesn't like it. I think it is quicker, but it is very difficult to know because of the noise. Some have had problems with flat spots between 2500 and 3000rpm, but I think mainly these are folk who have also used new intake hose or are using the APS wing version of the K&N cone.
As a modification, alone it makes little difference. The downpipe and PPP felt like they made overall at least 95% of the improvement to the car - OBVIOUS difference. The cones/filters are more "subtle" that's all. Find a way of safely upping your boost and you will really laugh! |
