What can I expect with the following upgrades

Hi all,
Just after some genuine answers to what my car maybe pulling at present with a couple of upgrades that have taken place in the last couple of weeks.

MY01 WRX with standard ecu settings (i.e. boost etc) & on 18" 225/40 tyres.

Prodrive Sports cat Down pipe
Prodrive short de cat pipe
Vortex after burner back box
Sti Panel Filter
Baileys DV12 Dump Valve (gets flames suit):thumb:

I am having it put on the rollers soon but want to aim for a figure before it goes on there. And in April time a re-map and some other bits and bobs to be fitted.
I have noticed the spool up is more responsive with the new down pipe and the boost pressure (if at factory standard) is kicking in now around the 1.5krpm stage than 3.0krpm.

Subaru claim the bug-eye (my01) had 215bhp as standard but it would be more or less around 205/10bhp to be fair I think.
Can anyone tell me what BHP or power gains my car will have at present pre-map with the above mods?

I think it will be around 220bhp to be honest?
Cheers
Steve

IMHO this should be around 240-245bhp

Enjoy

will also depend on what rollers you stick it on

Trap2Terrorist 24 February 2006 01:11 PM

I've got an MY01 WRX and fitted the following:

- Magnex decat center pipe
- Magnex backbox
- GREEN panel filter
- Walbro fuel pump

On the rollers it was showing 222bhp (from 1 run), an increase of 7bhp from standard.

Once it was remapped it went up to 265bhp and equally importantly, 258lb/ft torque.

New_scooby_04 24 February 2006 02:08 PM

I would anticipate a few bhp more, most likely not much at this stage as the ECU will add more fuel to compensate for the better airflow. A remap will liberate that ponies though.

You may have some boost issues and require a CEL fix untill you get the car remapped.

The ECU will be trying to compensate for all the changes so you probably won't have gained much if anything.

As said, getting it remapped with these mods (BOV aside..!;)) will yeald good results (usu.~ 40-50hp/ftlb). Also remapping will help your engine to run safer.

Stevesbluewrx 25 February 2006 12:48 AM

Thanks for all your replys guys.:thumb:

I think the 220bhp bracket is about right then in this case. I think thats the figure I will have in my head.If it beats that then fair cop and below I won't cry too much.
I know not everything should be based on the BHP as there are other things to consider too. But the with that little extra BHP it is more of a buzz and fun to drive at present. So after its been re-mapped it should be great!!:luxhello:

Better start saving then for a full re-map. Do you think the 270/275bhp bracket is possible with the above and of course the re-map? Do you recommend a up rated fuel pump to compensate more fuel being pumped through.

As for the the CEL. I haven't got the self maintenance thingy (can't find the name of it in my head) can I take it into a local Subaru garage or specialist and ask them to check for any codes or re-set them etc? Not sure if this can be done on the rollers next week can it without Licence laws etc?

Feel free to let me know if I am talking out of the butt. :thumb:

Cheers again folks

Steve

If you do the up-pipe (which has a restrictive cat in it in the bugeyes), and get a re-map, those figures are entirely achievable. I have a sports cat exhaust system (with replacement up-pipe), a couple of samco hoses, panel filter and mildly ported headers and got 284bhp/272lbft on my 02WRX on standard super unleaded at power engineering.

Stevesbluewrx 08 March 2006 07:32 PM

Guys,

I ran my car and got the following results........

199.1 bhp / 160.0ftlb .........Was p*ssed off to say the least as I am a jolly soul as many who have meet me will vouch for. :D

I had a boost leak which didn't help. When looking into this problem I noticed that the Baileys DV12 had become jammed and staying wide open. I am hoping I get a replacement as it is only just under 2 months old. :nono:
But more importanly could this have caused a leak elsewhere or damage?

So I now have the standard re-circ valve back on. Would the baileys have caused this amount of loss in power?

I am supposed to be getting a re-map next week with rolling road time etc. Now what I want to know is will I have all fault codes checked for etc that could pin point if there are anymore leaks? I really want to aim for the 268/270 margain but at what price? I don't want to runthe rsk of engine damage or det.

Can anyone advise me or help?

Steve

scooby_matt 08 March 2006 07:45 PM

If it's leaking boost, then this is possible. With those figures, something's wrong and that's sounds like the most likely candidate.
Not wanting to sound like a broken record...leave the standard re-circ valve on!

If the re-map is done properly, then you shouldn't have any issues with detting or boost leakages as this will show up and should be checked by the mapper.

Don't worry too much about the figures, sounds like a minor problem that'll be easily resolved.

Daniel-S 08 March 2006 08:09 PM

Also with the decat you would need a CEL fix

Latest update,
I am having fitted a vortex afterburner mid-section de-cat pipe fitted now so apart from the Prodrive Sports-Cat down Pipe there should be a lot more flow going through. So this should produce the 270 / 275 mark at least?

Is there anything else that is worth me getting done prior to me getting my car mapped by Pat next week? Do I need to get a de-restrictor pipe? I really can't wait as I have heard good things of the Ecutek 3 map. :luxhello:

I am thinking of buying the turbo hose kit (Samco) but not until next month or month after. Please don't tell me that my car will need to be mapped again if there is better hoses on the car i.e. boost etc? :wonder:
Sorry for all the questions. Just want to be 100% before I part with my cash as it's the cars first map.

Cheers

how much is the remap costing? planning on one myself so just curious.

Your car isn't an import so why the use of 99 RON and booster ??
it's not needed.

Just have it mapped for Tesco 99 RON and you'll be fine.

Also I don't think det should be an issue for your car !!

No, you won't need a remap with hoses AFAIK. The main benefit of the Samco hoses is that the OEM items, especially the intercooler pipe tend to split under increased boost....and you know what leaks mean!! :D If you can, I'd get them on there before, if not, keep your fingers crossed for the mapping and go easy on the loud pedal untill you get them done.

Oh, and I echo the above, leave the perfectly good std recirculating DV on the car- save your pennies for worthwhile mods....like the samcos!!!

270/275 very possible.

My car:
De-cat up-pipe
Sport's Cat downpipe
De-cat centre
Non-resonated centre
Afterburner Vortex backbox
Green panel filter
Uprated fuel pump
EcuTek 3 on Optimax

On MAHA rollers - 286/280
On Dyno Dynamics - 270/265

I'm running about 1.25 bar on the standard hoses - hoping that I don't have any problems...

Stevesbluewrx 23 March 2006 02:45 AM

Latest update.

Had my car mapped tuesday morning.

My car now runs at 260.2bhp / 264.4 lbft @ 1.23 bar .;) The mid range is fab and I love it to bits. Very happy. The interesting bit was when the car ran without the map it came out 223.1bhp / 221.2 lbft . So it goes to show that the boost leak lost me a hell of a lot.

I am on the verge of getting a sti8 tmic and the samco hose kit. Is there much gain in the sti8 i/c without the larger scoop and running a td04 at present? I know it won't improve a great deal but surely with cooling and maybe boost is there anything else other than it looks better with the "sti" logo?

I'm looking at getting a manual boost controller in the next month or so too with 3 gauge pod. So i am getting there even if it is slowly.:lol1:

Sorry for all the questions folks.

Can anyone help me on the I/C issue please? I need some advise so I can say yes or no to the guy who's selling his sti8 i/c.

Sorry to be a pain. :notworthy

Steve
