Write Offs
 

I was wondering if some-one could help me here.

My previous car has been wrote off and i recieved a letter today from the insurance asking for the V5 and such ( despite saying in another report that i could keep the car,which i wanted ) but it say MOT certificate if applicable.

What does that mean ?

It means that if the car was more than three years old, then they want the mot, if newer than that then it didn't need an mot anyway, therefore they wouldn't want one.....

you'll need to send the v5 off for insurance purposes - they'll return it but it will have either cat c or cat d written on it, nowt to worry about mate - went through this when i bought my corsa gsi, if cat c then you'll need vic check to put back on road

Cheers Guys,the only trouble i have is that the car wasnt mot'd, it was taxed thats why i left it out side the house.

The car wasnt being used at all, in fact it just had the work done for the mot,but where would i stand now Knackered or Not ?

I thought the car must be taxed to be on the road, then MOT'd and insured to been drove on the road, but this car wasnt being drove.

Any help ?

How did you write it off when it had not been driven?

I would assume someone hit it and it was parked on the road. If your car is on the road it requires a mot (if over three years old). It is your responsibilty to make sure it has one.

Having said that i would send off evrything i have and wait to see if they request it. If they do tell them you have sent it and they must of lost it. One down side is the new mots are entered onto a pc so the dvla can check, but i think you could say it had a old style one.

My mates car was knicked, but he had no m.o.t. They requested it but he never produced it and they still payed out.
They want the logbook as its proberbly going to be a cat C write off which means the logbook will be destroyed even if you keep the car, so youve gota take it for a VIC check to get a new logbook (with cat C extensively damaged will be stated on the logbook).
Cat d's are not stated on the logbook, dont require vic checks but will show up on the hpi register.
If i was you i'd send the logbook off on its own, then if you are asked for the mot after say you'll post it, then say it must of got lost in the post.

Thaks for the replys guys, i know i should have had an mot on there and thats the part that p/sses me off i really did replace the parts then that happened.The car was hit by a trailer out side my home.
