I had a WRX stolen a few months ago....insurance renewal has just come through from A S Flux at £2500 and 46 pennies. Now I love my new WRX, however I can deal with the 46p but does anyone have any ideas how I can reduce the £2500 part of the equation. Previous renewal was £680 with fully protected this and that and the wife was a named driver. Am I really in stook now?

adelasalle 11 October 2000 12:32 AM

Privilege will probably give you a good deal if first time customer... Other than that, if I can find the bit of paper, I know of one place that takes into account previous types of claims, they may not penialise you as much... I'll come back to you, I know Bell & Covill (Subaru dealers) know the details of this insurer, their number is 01483-281000...

Hope this helps, Alex

Zippo.

I have recently had the insurance runaround game. My Admiral insurance renwal came through at £945 (up from £720 previous year).
I naturally snorted my discontent and sought out a more suitable premium.
I got only 1 other quote under £1000 (Bell Direct (£939 but with £350 xs instead of £250). Most insurers told me to jump at anything under £1000.
Adrian Flux incidentally came in at about £2300 as I recall and that is with "a perfect record" so to speak.
All I can say is ring around but don't be too optimistic.
There appears to be a general increase in premiums (too many lame excuses given to list) and a conspiracy against imports.
Most frustratingly was the companies that advertise in such magazines as Japanese Performance and Car Import Guide. So many claimed to be specialists in performance cars and imports in their adverts, but either declined to quote on imports full stop, or else returned an abismal premium (£2000+ was common).
In the end I regrettably had to go back to Admiral, the only glimmer of light being that when I offered them a chance to tempt me to stay (Iwas prepared to go to Bell Direct) they lopped £60 off the premium.
I don't imagine however that A S Flux will be able to do much for you.....
Best of luck.

Neil.

Mine didnt go up.. renewed in June... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

They have told me in the past.. that I am the risk (er...tell me something I dont know)..so the policy is based on me....

So as my personal details havent changed.. neither did my insurance... admittedly.. I am one year older though. And 3 brain cells less (yes.. twice as dumb..or half as smart) http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Mine is about 1100 pounds...

Have you tried Rum (aka Tom) at Schofield Insurance? I will be interested to hear how competitive they are.

Akira 11 October 2000 01:30 PM

Or .......

I suggest you give A-Plan a ring as they have just insured my STi V TypeR for a shade under a grand. I am 28!!!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

I was getting quotes up to £1900 but both Barclays who are underwritten by Privilege & A-Plan came up with quotes around the £1K mark. Went with A-Plan as I was told you are not insured to drive other cars on the Barclay's policy. Only £100XS with Barclays though whereas A-Plan is £500.

Cheers
Chris

RichB 11 October 2000 01:47 PM

Yeah, I'm with A-Plan at the moment and paid just over 800(27yrs) on a STi4 with full ncb but 2 claims.
0845 0711234 is the number and Lee was very helpful.

The reply to that one should have been, "Then why does my premium go up if the make of car I own tends to get stolen even if mine doesn't?"

OPI are crap so don't bother!

Privellage are great as they insured me and the wife for £1000 on a 22B and were both under 25!

JayRaj 11 October 2000 06:29 PM

Harj,

You are joking?? How many years NCB have you got???

How come so cheap???

I'm 24 and the cheapest quote I got was £1500 for an Sti Type R

Cheers

Unfortunately I am only any good if the vehicle is fitted with either RAC Trackstar or Telematics eGuard - if thats the case I can try and fit the vehicle onto the P1 scheme I have and as a result use those rates.

I would be interested to know what other claims you have had Zippo....or more to the point why you have lost the protected no claims discount - normally you get 2 lives (2 claims) B 4 you lose the discount etc....it looks as if you have gone from Max unprotected NCD to NIL in one year following 2 claims??? is this the case???

Either way if you'd like to discuss further give me a call - 0113 250 0377 - and I'll try and point you in the right direction - even if I can't sort a policy for you.

All the best

You unlucky *******s. Got a quote for my soon to be new MY01 and it was AUD$989 which is about 375 Pounds..sound cheap....
The quote for 2500 pounds (from zippo) is equal to about AUD$6,600 and I doubt anyone in OZ would own a REX if they had to shell out that sort of cash. Hell, I could insure a Porsche Turbo for less than that.
Hope u r all happy with your current jobs coz u guys sure need them. I also presume none of u have mortgages as well as the car coz you would all be broke by now.
Cheers from OZ.

harj 12 October 2000 12:03 PM

Insurance is cheap due to 22B is a limited car and only a few around, not classed as a normal Scooby. Wife has 4 years NCD who's name the policy is on even though she will never drive it.

Policy is based around husband and wife thing.

zippo 12 October 2000 04:58 PM

Thanks for the replies chaps....I spoke to a friend at work who recommended 'Footman & Jame' in Birmingham (0121 561 4196). They quoted me £867 with a £675 excess. Spoke to A S Flux and told them I could insure my car 3 times over with the quote I had from Footman & James and that £2500 was a tad excessive. They informed me that NIG will no longer insure my vehicle but Norwich Union could (hence the massive renewal).

Beef 12 October 2000 05:11 PM

You could always try

adelasalle 12 October 2000 05:26 PM

This may make you all feel better, even if with a lot of shopping around I dont much change out of £3500 in notes!
