What's the current favorite tyre for New Age STI's?

Hi All,

My dad's about the put a fresh set of tyres on his MY03 STI. Usually he would go for Michelin's but thought I'd ask the masses before he spends his money.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

I am runing Yokohama AVS all round on mine. It would be great if you could go for a roadtest in the same car with a choice of any tyres going to see which you prefer but that's in dream land I think. I have heard good things abot TOYO tyres but have not tried them myself so no comment. Best of luck with the tyre lottery.

the bridgestones mine came with (225/45/17) do the trick for me - replaced all 4 since i've had the car
might consider Toyos next though but only coz they look good

Michelin Pilot Sport 2 are good, even recommended by Mike Wood of Prodrive on here yesterday.

We have used a 235 tyre on the 05/06MY cars as they give the best performance. Until recently we found the best tyre available was the PS2 but we've just been able to source the PZero Corsa Assymmetrico that we asked Pirelli to do a couple of years ago so that's what we'll be changing over to.

I've got them on my WRX03 in 225/40/18 and I much prefer them to the OEM Bridgestone's and Toyo's I tried.

If he is happy with the Michelins then why change?

Andy.

2nd for PS2's. Make sure he askes for the re-enforced side wall ones. :thumb:

What are they like Martin?

I need to replace the RE070's on mine and was heading off towards PS2's.
I've heard mixed things regarding the ZZ3's.

What are the Falken 451's like.....a chap with an M3 loves his new set !

fritz555 17 February 2006 03:59 PM

got toyo t1s tyres all round on mine, excellent grip but tend to wear quite quickly. heard the toyo t1r tyres are better wearing though.

had proxies on old sti - nice predictable handling in dry and wet - will probably go for them when my RE070's go. Either that or Yoko Paradas II - but they look/sound very soft and prob wont last long.

F1 since new on my 03sti ... 90k miles ... love em.

Had a set of PS2's put on a couple of months ago and I'm very impressed with them. Loads of grip in both dry and wet conditions.

phil

will be interested to see how you get on with the Paradas :)

Fitted by Costcos and another 20% off deal...

exellent in both wet and dry conditions...

Don't buy Toyo T1 S's i've had some scary moments on mine.

Just slapping some Michelin PS2's (235/40/ZR18 95Y EL) onto my MY03 STi ... the original Pirelli PZero Neros are finally giving up the ghost after 25k+. (Well, one is approaching 2mm whilst the rest are hovering around the 3-4mm mark ... but I'm paranoid over tyres, hence the change now)

235?

mine are 225/40/18 & are the extra load ones :thumb: Better check to make sure that you have the right ones.

Bridgestone RE070's are the mutts nuts and suit my 03sti very well.

dipster.

I had a great time on Snetterton with the RE070's awesome grip and very little tyre squeal.

I would like to try Yoko Paradas though in comparison I think they will work slightly better in the wet. Not looking for full wet weather (if I was I would go Toyo route) as I take it easier in the wet generally.

anc-sti 13 March 2006 11:29 AM

not sure the 235 fits the 03/04 sti's deffo get this checked.

Mike Wood mentioned in another thread they spec'd the WR1 with 225 because of this problem.
