Router/Network type question

Folks,

OK what I know about comms you could write on the back of a fag packet.

So, sorry for any stupid questions I'm about to ask.

On my laptop, its set to obtain address automatically.
No default gateways in sight - everything works a treat.

Now, a customer has provided us with a router to connect directly to their network - plug it in they say! add a route to the router for our network and away you go. Dead easy they say!

Brilliant it works!

But, with the gateway set, my internet connection (which is through our windows 2K server) doesn't work anymore.

What do I need to do. The guy in the office who knows about all this stuff isn't available for the next lot of days.
OK, I can add & remove the gateway when I need to, but that's just a pain in the ass as far as I'm concerned.

Any ideas?

Shaun

yeap you have added a default route to their router, so all the trafic destined for the internet will go there instead of going to your 2k server.

you need to delete the default route to the new router (so your computer changes the default route back to your 2K server) then add a specific route that only routes the network address range used by this other compaines network (can be done via cmd prompt/DOS window using "route add" command, you will need their network address and network mask, will be something like IP address x.x.x.x Mask 255.255.255.0).
