Bonnet popped open....
At 130:( On a track obviously, has this happened to anyone else before? Seems to be locked ok now but it's freaked me out abit! Could've been messy if it came open all the way.
It's a 03 sti, is this another known problem? Cheers. David. |

Yep happened to me, 04 WRX.
In the car with a mate then sh1t myself BANG as the bonnet popped:( Luckily the release catch held the bonnet down, as I slowed down and pulled over to shut it properly. |
i know anything above 100mph (on a track) and a newage STI bonnet buffets a hell of a lot. Understandable really given the size of the scoop but it's un-nerving for a while! - it's never come lose though

Used to happen to me a lot on both my WRX's, What a good car:norty:

Cheers guys. So it's not worth taking it back to the dealers then? Just something i need to keep an eye on.
VXR boy- I'm assuming that's a astra VXR you have. How do you find it compared to a scoob? I was thinking about ordering one but i can't bring myself to get rid of my sti at the moment. Cheers. David. |
This is going to be followed by a post from someone saying they have slept with my mum (sgcooby) But the VXR is a better car than the WRX, faster and better quality, but if you have an STI i would probably keep it if you just want out and out speed. All pro's and con's it depends what what you want out of a car.

David. Or if you don't wanna use the search, here is how his response will go......The Astra VXR is so much better than a *insert swearword* WRX or ony other fwd car come to think, anyone who disagrees with me is a *swear* *swear again* and should go back to school. All Impreza's are *sware sware sware* and you are all *swear*. (and i have more money than you, you *sware*!!!) (or words to that effect) :D |
never happened to me but the bonnet does lift at the corners a lot at speed.
BTW saw a VXR Astra today on the road, looks :thumb: |
Happened on mine 04STI at 110mph,adjusted catch never done it again. When i close the bonnet i just drop it from about 18"seems to do the job.JASON

bonnet
happened to me 05 STI solution is below
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y10...f/DSCN0492.jpg works a treat careful drilling that bonnet though :norty: cheers mick |
I always worried bout the same thing happening to me, so to eliminate the problem fitted bonnet pins.
|
I had the bonnet flip fully open on a car I was driving - can't believe it didn't smash the screen/dent the roof, but it bent the bonnet hinges so badly that it wouldn't shut again. Scary experience, and that was only at 40mph - couldn't see a thing!
I'm aware of this happening to at least one Scooby - left a nice dent in the roof! :( BTW:- are those bonnet pins legal on a road car? |
My 05 bonnet lifts at 60mph, especially in a cross wind, so it obscures the joing between it and the wing. Seems to be a bigger than normal gap between the front grille and the bonnet too, maybe letting air in. May I should get it adjusted at next service...

At a 130 my windscreen rubber seal jumped out!
Folded right back over, damaging the roof and side of the car! £120 later, the seal was replaced.(1999 classic turbo) |
My 03 STi done the same thing @ 50 Mph. just like i'd pulled the bonnet release, luckily it never flew right open, managed to pull over and give it a slam shut. Mind u it does buffer when going 80Mph plus loads.

Happened to Seb Loeb on Rally Sweden.

mick :) Not saying they should be either, but just wondered. I'm sure they're ok then... :thumb: |

better way is to simply heat up the mastic holding the front and back part of the lens up with a hairdryer - far safer way to do things:) There was a guy on here who forgot his lights were in the oven - when he came back it was melted! |
