What's the best dsl modem/router all in one?

Looking to replace my voyager 105 with a new modem/router all in one. Which ones is the best to go for? Hoping to use it at home, dont really care if it's wireless or wired, just want it to be safe, secure and reliable. Only planning to run my pc, laptop and a printer off it, nothing special or fancy.

Any advice is much apprecaited thanks.

Draytek Vigor 2800G is a good all in one : wireless, built in adsl modem, firewall, printer port but I think its a bit pricey. A good budget one with the same features is the US Robotics MaxG router which can be had for about £80.
If you can live without wireless and a printer port you should be able to pick up a Netgear even cheaper

great range through the complete house at full power and right down into the garden.

Got to switch on the WEP security though else everyone in your street will piggyback your ADSL.

another vote for the vigor, but yes it is expensive:)

Most reliable I've rolled out - SpeedTouch 510 v4.

Now replaced by the 546, which whilst it has a "better" interface, uses an inferior ADSL chipset so is pants if you're a long way from the exchange.

Got a couple of DrayTek 2900Gs out in the field now and impressed so far.

Have tried LinkSys WAG54Gs and they're not even up to being used as doorstops.

Acutally, a decent adsl chipset is in my criteria. I am a wee bit away from the exchange and one of the reasons for changing the voyager 105 is that it drops the connections.

Been looking at the Belkin range but I'm open to others.

What do I look out for if I'm looking for a decent adsl chipset? Is it in the specification list of a modem/router?

I just blew up a linksys WAG354G :lol1: So i'd give that a miss

You might find the ADSL chipset listed in the spec' for the router Gordon but not always.

As I mentioned, we used to use SpeedTouch 510 v4. We swapped to the 546 as the replacement model. However...

I've got a site out in the sticks but they can just have 512k ADSL. A 546 (which has the Broadcom ADSL chipset, IIRC) wouldn't sync with the exchange, even with a top quality filtered master face plate on the line. A 510 v4 sync'd first time, as the Alcatel chipset used in it is better over long distances.

I believe there is a long range firmware option for the Drayteks but it's not something I've looked into in depth.

Netgear DG834GT at home and it's been 100% reliable.Available via PC World "Collect in store" for £69.99 which is better than web prices IIRC.

Belkin = sweet kit

Linksys = total pants

Ditto! I have installed hundreds of these and never had one fail. There easy to setup and have good range. I'm getting a 90% signal and am three stories away from the box which is also sat in a cupboard! and they look good as well.

That PC World price is pretty good as well, thats cheaper than I sell them for, ahem!

Is this the same as the DG834GUK. This appears to be the closest that PC world sell. They also sell a dearer one - suppose to have a better range.....?

I know why its so cheap, sorry I should have looked at the PC world site, the one they are selling is the 54mbps one the one you want is the DG834GT, never trust PC World.

I bought the DG834GT from pcworld last summer for £60ish in store, bargin!

Top bit of kit as well.

Yep,mine was from PC World last year too...
£69.99 collect in store price but £129 if you bought it off the shelf (Robbin gits!!!)

The ones i've seen in PC world are the 54mbps models?

Yep GT 108mbps, a bargin it was yes.
PCworld was cheaper than any online offer I could find!
