05 Impreza STI Dump Valve

Car as above, now are these fitted with some form of dump valve, I hear a ttttsssssss noise when lift off throttle/change gear, but it nothing too loud like the after market (Bailey) dump valves. Under the bonnet just below the inter-cooler there is a gold divice, they may well be it!, is it?.:wonder:

The o/e re-circ dump valve is bolted to th near side of the inter-cooler

All turbo impreza's are fitted with a dump valve. They are either recirculating type where the air goes back into the system or VTA (vent to atmosphere) type where the air is thrown out of the system. You will always hear a VTA - thats the whole point of them, but I believe you can hear the standard recirc dump valve if you have an induction kit and possibly with a decat up/down pipe. In the newage both types are mounted on the front of the intercooler.

If you have a recirc then you will see the vacuum hose connecting into the right hand side of the valve and the air bypass hose leading out of the back left. It will look something like the one connected to my intercooler here

If you have a VTA type then you will only see the vacuum hose connecting into the right hand side. The air bypass hose which used to connect to the recirc valve will be blanked off probably with an alloy cap (the one in the pic is a HKS dump valve waiting to go on)

With an STi panel filter I can definitely hear it between gear changes when I back off the throttle.
