Finally...

After months of saving, thinking, and building myself up to it... on saturday, finally got the ball rolling and started taking my engine out of MY98 STi type R...
The previous weekend built a carport on the side of the house meant for this purpose...
So with a few security lights, and the Scooby moved to its place under the carport it started, I planned to just do a few bits, labeling things up etc, get all the little bits done then remove the engine next weekend...
But it ain't happend... I've just plodded on with it, got quite abit done saturday...
Today went work, come back at 11am... was gonna wash me MK1 Golf(pimped runaround), as its up for sale now the end is near...
But said to myself I'll just do a couple more bits on it... and what do you know... the bloody things is out...
With abit of planning and reading through the forums, it really couldn't have gone better...
Fingers crossed all being well, I'm gonna start stripping the block on friday to see whats needed...
It was going Teg sport but i'm gonna go for it, and build it myself...
I've chatted to P1Mark earlier today and my mind is made up...( cheers mate... )
Looking forward to having it back now, its been off the road since Sept 05... just gonna go steady with the re-build, and hoping to have it back out early April 06... fingers crossed
To get a text message this afternoon off Mr and Mrs WRX saying over 100 Scoobs had turned up to the Derby meet... really cheered me up, knowing I was under the bonnet, and aload of you lot were all out drinking/playing...
I've got some catching up to do...

Hurry up with that rebuild, next derby run is gonna be even bigger...;)

Seriously though, take your time and get it right and you'll have one of the best scoobs around.

C YA SOON.

Si.

I should be down to the April/ May one mate... promise... but if i'm still running it in, you'll have to wait up for me...

scoobyboy1 06 February 2006 10:26 AM

Good luck mate, Lots of late nights working on the scoob then, What sort of spec you looking at.:)

Scoobyslammed 06 February 2006 11:30 PM

Well its not gonna be the 2.5litre... sticking with the 2litre... depending on whats wrong... if it just needs a crank and bearings... gonna be STi9 stuff with my wiseco pistons and steal rods, if the uprated pistons and rods that are in my block are non saveable... going for a STi8 bottom end...
Spec, bottom end wise, will know soon!!! Its got Gems ecu with anti-lag, uprated fuel pump, gonna have atleast 550 injectors fitted, probabley a Andy F TD05 20g, uprated headers, turbo up-pipe, down pipe... Hybrid FMIC, HKS induction kit... and a few other bits and bobs...
All work is now gonna be DIY, so its gonna be a learning curve... might have some head work done too...

Scoobyslammed 10 February 2006 05:14 PM

Been working on it again today... had to take the clutch off to get it on the engine stand...
Headers are off, turbo is off, inlet manifold off... cambelt off...etc...
Just took one rocker cover off... ah!!! What socket do I need to release the heads?
Any particular sequence?
And i'm assuming the cams have got to come out... and keep everything in order?
Anyone help me???
Also drained the oil off... theres a very very slight metal tinge to the top layer of oil... hoping I've got away with it and just have to replace the crank and bearings... plus a good all round clean up...
Anyone want a VF34 rollerbearing turbo with less than 5K done on it... cost just under £900 quid from Teg sport in sept 04... I have anti-lag on the car... only selling due to another upgrade... this turbo really pulls well on my type R... whats its worth??? Pm me... also standard headers and intercooler for sale...

This should go in projects with some piccys.

Scoobyslammed 10 February 2006 05:26 PM

Will see what I can do... been busy at work etc... its hard enough taking one apart for the 1st time... let alone doing the picture step by step...
I will sort it though, as taking pic's of the engine strip down may come in handy...

I'm being serious though mate...lol
Anyway, anyone help me regarding what socket I need to undo the head bolts???

p1mark 10 February 2006 09:42 PM

Hi mate,

if its like the MY00 hheads, its a high torque bolt head. looks like you need a special socket but you dont - a standard socket does the job perfectly. release them a bit at a time in the opposite order to the torqueing up sequence - just for safety as you dont want to warp them.

You have my number - if you get in the poo send me a text or give us a call;)

Scoobyslammed 11 February 2006 12:51 PM

Anyone know the torqueing up sequence... ain't got that far yet...
Cheers mark... will do...
Also, regarding cam removeal... Should I just mark them up where there from???

Thats all in my project thread on P1 woc. take the cams out And put them back in with the timing mark lined up i.e all the pistons midway up the bores. they need timing up properly when you build it obviously.

cylinder head sequence is in there as well for tightening up, just reverse it for removal.

This thread will get lost in here, PM a mod and get them to move it to projects or general technical;)

Cheers again mark...
