HOW much?!???!

Took my WRX in to Triton in Bournemouth last night to look at a non-starting problem.
Didnt get any contact all day so just phoned them, and they said
'Yeah its all done'. I asked what the problem was, they said Fuel Pump.
I said how much, they said £245.

Suffice to say i am shocked for two reasons:
a) They didnt phone me to get permission to do the work.... all i did was ask them to look at it.
b) £245 to change a fuel pump!? what are they, 80 quid?!

Im going to pick it up tomorrow, im a little bit annoyed.... going to discuss it with them as they are normally good guys, but if it all goes pear shaped does anyone know what my rights are?

Cheeeeeeers

Chris

As you say, the fuel pump cost £80-£90 and it takes around 1 hour at the very max to change.... They will probably say that the rest of the charges were for investigating the fault... Dont really know where you stand tho mate..

Good luck eh!

Yes that is kind of what i figured. They will probably say 1 hour for diagnostic. 1 hour to fit. Even though you could do it all in 1.
The point is though, they didn't confirm with me first!
hmmmm!

I think they *may* offer a small discount IF you beat them up about it enough, but then if you always go there.......Although it is a lot of money.

Been looking for prices for OEM fuel pumps, coming in at about £110 including VAT.
They charge 60 quid an hour labour. So i suppose if they reckon 2 hours labour plus the part... that about adds up.

soooo pi55ed off they didnt ask me first! i've never had a garage do that before... not even rubbish ones, and these guys are supposed to be the best!
im definitely going to try and get something back from them... if anything, for the principle!
:rant over:

think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts...
:cuckoo:  :cuckoo:

Tell them to put it back how it was because you never authorised them to carry the work out at that price without a quote first. That should get you a discount.

I had a problem aswell once, was told it would take around £110 to remove an alarm system which was playing about Got a phone call that the car was done sometime later and was asked for £250 squid because it took the slow fat lazy bobs more time.

I ended up paying £220 walking away very much on fire
