Pioneer 110d is a good drive

NEC 4550 would be my choice at the moment though, roughly the same price as all the others around the £30 mark

A lot of people seem to like the NEC drives at the minute.I have a Pioneer (110) and just recently got an NEC drive in a Dell system that I bought.I have sworn by Pioneers since the A03 came out many moons ago so I'd say to buy Pioneer as they've been very reliable for me.It's worth paying the extra couple of quid and getting the 110 (And not the 110d) as that includes dvd-ram writing support and although none of us will probably use it (Unless you have a dvd-ram home dvd recorder for instance) it's worth the extra couple of quid to have even more options for burning.
Have a look at www.svp.co.uk for one of the best places to buy a writer/media from.I've used them for years without any major problems...

Good luck :)

Nick

Oh,and seeing as Paul has just posted above me,have a look at his website www.diskdepot.co.uk as I've used him before too and his prices are pretty keen... :)

Another vote for the Pioneer from me mainly because of the better firmware support and updates which gives better media compatibility e.g 110D firmware 1.39 updated on 27\1\06 which leads to better quality burns and cheaper running costs. I`ve got a 110 a 109XL and a 108 in my puter at the moment and they are all superb.Have a look here:

I've just upgraded from a 106 to a 110bk. I primarily went for Pioneer because of their quality settop DVD products, which tends to filter down to PC drives and it;s very rare to see a problematic product.

I wish could say the same for the 105 drive they made. Both mine and my mates died a month apart from each other. Symptoms. Would not recognise DVDs but it would read CDs. And before anyone posts. Yes I did try a Firmware upgrade.
