Uneven idle after more than usual acceleration..MAF sensor ?
Hello all
STI V import (1999) After bursts of heavy right foot the tickover sometimes is eratic (ie neddle fluctuating between 200-1000 revs). After a few minutes tickover returns to normal. I have had this problem before & put in a new MAF sensor which cleared the problem. Does anyone know of any other problems apart from MAF sensor that would cause the tickover to go eratic ? Appreciate any info you can give. Cheers Andy. |
MAF sounds like the most likely problem. Take it to a dealer and get them to plug the select monitor in for you to confirm it.

Thanks for the reply guys
The last time it went funny it did turn out to be the MAF sensor.
The select monitor did not pick this up when plugged in looking for problems. Might just try getting a new one & seeing what happens. Cheers Andy. |
Okay changed MAF but idle still between 200 & 1000
Seems the new MAF did not sort the problem out.
Anyone have any other ideas ? Only thing recently been done was replacement of the knock link sensor. The select monitor showed no error codes after knock link installed. Maybe I need to get someone with a select monitor to look again. Cheers Andy. |
'improved than normal acceleration' would normally indicate that the car is running a bit lean on WOT may be worth your while getting hold of a wideband monitor to check the fuelling

i also get this in my 01 wrx...
if ive been thrashing it for a while and stop the car, leave it for a minute, then turn it off... if i start the car a few minutes later the car will idle uneven and i will be able to feel the car wobbling. |
make sure your intake is sealed tight. i had the same problem thought it was the maf but all i did was tighten up everything before and after the maf had no more problems (yet)
