WRX STI 8 BOTTOM ENDS PROBLEM

I have recently put my car in for a re-map and been told that it requires 1 of 2 things!

1. A complete rebuild of my bottom ends!

2. A complete new bottom end straight out the packet!

The only reason i have been given for this is that it must have had a lack of oil at some point!!! I beleive that this is the most common reason for this but it has been religously looked after!!!

It has done 19k is a 52reg and has had an oil change at every 3000 miles with no comprimises!!!!

The reason i am telling yous this is that im not entirely sure what to do!!!
Do i get a second opinion??? Or do i trust what they say and get it fixed baring in mind that the difference in cost between the 2 options is a matter of 600 quid and the second option is the 2.5L bottom end which will give me about 400 bhp and costing around 3500 quid!!!!
Does anyone else agree with me that if a 19k car had had an oil change every 3k miles the chances of this happening are very small!!!!???

I would also be gratefull if someone could give me some details on the best places to get information.
Thanks!
p.s do not ask me to tell you who the garage is as i do not think it fair to say at the moment!!!!

Is it noisy or smoky? Have you not noticed any difference in it recently?
When they say bottom end, get them to be more specific. They must have good cause to say this, so what is the cause?

IE are the big ends knacked? Is it low on compression? Do you have a damaged piston due to detonation etc etc.....

have recently re-built an early bug-eye with less than 25K on the clock that had been poorly serviced and caused various problems...............

what are the symptoms/problems with the car and exactly what sort of upgrade had you been attempting??

I havent been trying to upgrade anything the car only required a re-map as it had been backfiring a bit and flat spotting sometimes!
The re-map was a success and sorted it all out they say but they then found that it had in thier words a 4th cylnder big end shell collapse and that it defo sounds like it 150% definite!!!! After the re-map!!!
