Cam Locking Tool

Does anyone know where i can get hold of the right cam locking tools cheap (aka not subaru part 499977000 £179 +vat!) for the ej20?

Been reading about pulleys that wear out too so if anyone has pictures of these so i know what to look for as ! tear my baby apart :brickwall

I've been toying with the idea of maiking myself one, a flat strip of steel, with two holes drilled at the same centres as the cams, two bolts with two nuts on each, one either side of the steel strip. This works as the later cars have allen bolts holding the pulleys on, therefore the bolt head would need to be the same size as the allen bolt...... if you see what i mean...... should costt all of £1 all-in!!

The pulleys that can wear are the belt idlers, you can only see them and assess their condition when the belts off really....

Nice Idea! Any adea of measurements or you still to take a tape measure to the car? Sure beats Subaru prices!!

I haven't got round to measuring it, it'd take about two minutes to make the tool when i next do my belt..... i think the earlier cars had hex bolts, so might not be quite so simple on those i guess......
