DOH! Just broke my Raptor!

Had a bit of a moment, when slotting my new raptor inside the computer.

Came to attach the SATA cable and found it wouldn't fit properly.

Took the drive out and found the plastic locating plate on the SATA socket of the drive has broken off and deposited itself inside the end of the SATA cable!

I've had to RMA the drive back to WD. They're sending a replacement out straight away, while I send this one back to Germany! DOH!

As an aside, when I get the replacement drive back I intend to install a frsh copy of Windows XP Pro (sp2) on it. I'll be using a very new Windows XP Pro CD complete with SP2, so will this allow me to do a straight install without asking me for the SATA driver right at the begining ?

It depends on what SATA chipset it uses. I know for VIA chipsets it will need a driver putting on a floppy disk and when prompted to press F6 during the XP install use the disk with VIA driver.

its a silicon image 3112 Sata Raid

I don't have a floppy drive

Can I press f6 and offer it the driver on another hard disk eg. F: ?

Just had a look on the MS KB and they just mention a Floppy Disk to install extra drivers. :brickwall
