After 3 months to the day, I have my STi III back. It's running brilliantly with it's new version IV engine.

A big shout goes to Scoobysport, as usual, My local Dealer who were so patient and Simon from Graham Goode without whom I'd have been without the car for even longer.

Thanks to loads of you out there who offered sympathy and tissues in my darkest hour.

What was the final prognosis with your old lump ?, rumour has it the STi 3 has the strongest engine for modding. Were you running the standard spec on 97 Ron. I'm looking for some pointer as I've a low mileage STi 3 which is standard at present. I've no plans at present bar a ss backbox when the standard one gives up. You previously mentioned that you suspected no 3 big end might have expired and we all know about the dreaded piston slap on no. 3 cylinder, are the two related ?, will prolonged enthusiastic driving with piston slap result in big end failure or are there two entirely seperate problems that can result from the suspected overheating in this are of the block ?. Lots of ? I know, any pointers would help, I'm just keen to know if there are some things I should follow and other I should avoid e.g. oil type, oil cooler, oil change frequency, huge bonnet scoop above no 3 cylinder.

Old engine has been bought by a chap wanting to rebuild it for his Rally car. A mate of his works in a Scooby Dealers and he will be stripping it down. Until then, i can only guess at the cause and the damage.

The III engine ( and IV ) is very strong but it would appear the bottom end is the weak point.

There's been lotsa threads on reasons for big end failure but oil pressure keeps on bubbling up. Power Engineering have developed an improved Oil pump which they're using for rebuilds so i guess they're taking it seriously.

I shouldn't worry about modding your car though. Take my advice, your engine will respond very well indeed with a downpipe and Filter, oh yes http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Im currently running only on a full Scoobysport exhaust and Blitz filter.... and a slightly lightened flywheel, whilst it's not anywhere near as urgent as the Phased 1 car, it's still one hell of a laugh http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Will be doing the Lombard..NetworkQ..Rally of GB..... whatever it's now called in November so i'll be plastering the boot.
