Why Half an Hour ???? No power is no power, no matter how long you have it off for. Surely. :wonder:

Midlife...... 24 January 2006 01:12 PM

AFAIK the ECU contains capacitors which need time to to discharge...

Aztec Performance Ltd 24 January 2006 01:36 PM

Is it a APS cold air kit?

If so it is strongly recommended that ECU is remapped before driving on boost.

yep thats the one. i asked aps the exact same question and they did say i would benift from having it mapped but it wouldnt be a problem with juts bolting it on.

Aztec Performance Ltd 24 January 2006 01:46 PM

Will they pay for your engine rebuild when it goes all wrong?

Its' strongly recommended to have it remapped.

woolz 24 January 2006 01:53 PM

why would it go all wrong?

Aztec Performance Ltd 24 January 2006 01:59 PM

Unfortunatley the search facility is down.

The MAF will get incorrect readings with the APS and the car will run lean as a result. Running lean can lead to engine failure.

Speak to Harvey (had an engine failure as a result of APS), or a respected mapper such as AndyF or Bob Rawle.

Out of interest is there anywhere any actual factual information of this kind of kit doing anything at all to standard or lightly modded cars. When I say doing anything I mean improving power?

My only experience is having mine removed when the car was mapped as it was actually increasing the inlet temperature and reducing power. It was taken off, replaced with a green panel filter and the temp went down by 14 degrees (from memory).

Is it just another, you must have one of these mods which does nothing except make a noise and potentially cause problems?

aps said they have seen around 10bhp gain once fitted with a map from just this filter

Wurzel 24 January 2006 02:31 PM

I have the APS CAK fitted to my MY00 and you do need a remap once you fit it I had mine remapped by Bob Rawle.

I would get a few more mods if I was you before getting it remapped considering it will cost you 650 quid +vat for a remap, seems a major outlay just to get an induction kit fitted.

I only fitted one as I will be getting an FMIC in the near future and you can't use the OEM airbox, also this one came up cheep :)

woolz 24 January 2006 02:34 PM

what do you think of it mate?

Wurzel 24 January 2006 02:37 PM

I think it is great, it is tucked away in the wing out the way and not in the engine bay taking up space and sucking in hot air. Dead easy to fit and looks pretty good.

Gutmann pug 24 January 2006 02:38 PM

The map would give you over 10bhp anyway so how can they claim their kit is helping or hindering?

For instance the re-map on my car gave about 60bhp.

Aztec Performance Ltd 24 January 2006 02:39 PM

I have one on mine and a remap is needed

woolz 24 January 2006 02:41 PM

think they meant ontop of the map! ie: with the map they thought my wrx should see 260bhp and with the filter it should see 270 aprox

p1doc 24 January 2006 02:43 PM

i thought you would be lucky to get 10bhp from an induction kit but again you would need remap and unless you compare same car with map vs same car with map and induction kit you will not know the difference as there can be variation between identical cars eg sti ppp can vary from 285-305bhp for newage cars.you are tempting fate with induction kit with no remap though,£650 vs engine rebuild!

If fitted to a new age car, and it's the smaller of the 2 induction pipes it will be okay without a remap.

GazTheHat 24 January 2006 02:45 PM

I bolted an induction kit (apparently group A) to my classic, which was already had exhaust and map. Drove to Newquay and the engine popped, cost me £4000 to rebuild. :( Everything was fine before the induction kit.

So if so someone is commenting on getting a remap before driving around, i'd go for that option. Unless you've thousands under the mattress, just in case.

Aztec Performance Ltd 24 January 2006 02:46 PM

What MY car is it?

its a wrx uk300 2001

automodellistagt 24 January 2006 02:53 PM

what exactly would you remap for out of interest, i.e. what would the mapper change for the induction kit. Any mappers on today or anyone more knowledgable then japanese performance readers? ;)

i presume for altered air flow for a start

As already stated above, the APS standard size 63mm induction kit for the new age cars is okay without a remap. On standard cars which run very rich it will lean out the AFR a little, which is where some of that extra power can come from. The APS cold air kit for the 99/00 is definitely a remap only job.

what would happen if you sold/fitted aps kit without remap and car went bang? as obviously manufacturer warranty is void

Customers choice to fit it

Since I don't actually sell APS kit, just do the remapping the people talk about, it's not my position to say.
