Every tournament year, the England manager is in the press........

.....apparently the FA will tell Sven he has to go after the World Cup.

Great, glad he's going, don't like his style, don't think he's that good, think he's negative and has cost us a lot.

His motivation is questionable at the best of times, so why do the FA think Sven will help the England team take advantage of their best chance in recent years to win the World Cup, if he's out straight after?

Should have sacked him after Portugal.

We are the only country in the world that tries to write bad press about our sportsmen/women, managers etc. Just to sell news papers.

Maybe they're offering him a new PA for the duration?

Yep, and people still buy it. Shame they do not vote with their feet when this sort of thing happens!

Agree totally, don't like stings and entrapment, but on the other hand, if the national manager had more integrity and didn't sh@g anything that moved, meet potential employers of his own accord whilst under contract, try to defend 1 nil leads for 80 minutes, he, more importantly, we, wouldn't be in this mess. Again.

Firstly - just to get this out of the way - I'm Scottish, but would still like to see England doing well in the World Cup.

The NOTW should be ashamed of it's conduct over the last 2 weeks regarding this new story - the claims made WILL harm the relationship with the players.

I also agree that Sven should have gone already - 2 affairs + the whole chelsea manager thing a while back - and now the latest allegations. Anyone in his position HAS to be whiter than white.

Get Martin O'Neill in there ASAP i say!

I think he's ok when he doesn't try to do anything too radical. There's only one place for a christmas tree and it's not on the football pitch!! ;)

I hear Souness will be looking for a job soon

agree. the bloke is a joke!

Mungo 23 January 2006 05:37 PM

Regardless of whether you think he's a good manager, a few months before the World Cup is not the time for a media-led hate campaign to hound him out of his job.

Flatcapdriver 23 January 2006 05:53 PM

Why not? As far back as I can remember it was always this way coupled with the perennial look back at '66 with fondness in comparison to today's team. Then it's the build up with 'England standing a good chance this time' followed by general OTT euphoria as they bowl over some bunch of no-hopers from Mongolia, followed by mass hysteria as they win another game against some team of amateurs who only play as a team on alternate Tuesdays.

Then general despondency as England get clouted by a semi-serious outfit like Sweden and manage to scrape through on goal difference because Inner Dijibouti only fielded 6 men in their last match. Another win is scraped against the 'auld enemy' <insert Germany, Oz, Scotland, France, Argentina or team of choice here> and then total abject failure as they get swamped by a proper team in the semis.

It's like a bad case of deja-vu - happens every time and yet people are surprised?

Flatcapdriver, you just ruined my whole summer!!!!!! ;)

1.The NOTW is owned by a wank*r Australian who is determined to damage this country any way he can.

2.Sven has a great record,losing only 3 competative matches.

3.Who cares who he sh@gs.

Get behind the team, dont buy Murdochs rags.

Scooby-Mark 24 January 2006 01:25 PM

The only thing I disagree with the F.A over the whole Sven things is the timing this announcement, idealy he should have gone a while back
( Prefferably never appointed in the first place IMO ).

As mentioned before yes he has a good record, but not at major tournements
But when its counted he has failed against Brazil and Portugal in the last two major tournements, when we had good chances to win both games.

The quailifying for this world cup was a joke at times,
I mean should a side as good as England loose away to Northern Ireland ??
and if the press hadn't hounded him and James after the blunders away in Austria would will still be seeing James in goal for England ??

I can just see another tournement going to waste and everyone harping on about him only loosing 4 competative games while in charge,
but we will have won fcuk all under him !!
He still gets the mega money payout and leaves to go elsewhere.

I think the F.A should have had more back bone and fcuked him off after the last Euro's

Lets pray they get it right next time and pick an English man for the job.
