How much to offer in a car deal?

Looking to change my current motor. Seen something I like at a VW dealers (yes it's a VW  ). Advertised at 10250. Given the pittance I was offered in part-ex for mine, went to see my dealer for a cash price to buy it back. Their offer wasn't too bad, and something I'd be willing to accept if I could get a good deal on the VW. How much money is normally available in a dealers car to knock off? I'd also want the obligatory mats, flaps, tank of petrol as well, so how much could/should I realistically be looking to get them down to? Is 9500 too unrealistic with the extras for a cash deal?

I'll throw it over to you more knowledgable ones ;)

Tell them you have got 9 grand cash ready and waiting, then just go to walk out if they say no, they will probably call you back

When I was looking for a car for my wife, I had no PX and cash when to a PUG dealer they were willing to knock off a minimum of £500 or a car that was 6k to 7k (preowned) so I would be also aiming for 9k with all the extras on the one you are looking at

Thanks guys, I'll start at 9k. I've already walked away once and told him that although I like the car, I'm only prepared to pay a certain price, which I wasn't going to get anywhere near with the part-ex. He'll probably just laugh, but I'll remind him it's good old cash so will help clear some of his stock before the end of the slow month of Jan ;)
