Pad life?

I have an 03 sti ppp how many miles should i expect from a set of front brake pads?
Some of my driving is hard , but the mrs uses it most of the time
They seem to be getting very low ,they have done just over 10k
I have posted this in the brake area but with no sucsess....

Well, I know that some don't believe it ...................... but I am on 65,000miles on the original pads on a nearly 6 year old Impreza.

I do NOT think it's a weird thing as I have never replaced pads on any car I have owned ............ not since the early 1970's anyway!!

All pads should last 80,000miles .... but then I'm assuming an expert driver I suppose??

Pete

That would be funny if they did .........................

They don't and haven't!! :D

I know, it comes out of my wallet and everything that moves there is noted!! :D

reminds me of that only fools and horses sketch where trigger gets a medal for saving the council money. he had the same broom for many years. said broom had 7 new handles and 25 new heads in its life time mind you.

I feel like a bit of an old duffer now; my 05 wrx needed new pads at just under 20k. Okay, lots of motorway miles and only 6 laps of the 'ring, but still...

Must try harder!

Whatever you do, don't replace them with EBC Red Ceramic's :nono: They'll be gone before you get off your drive :D

...but you've gone through 5 transmissions due to your incredibly vicious engine braking and all the locals know your car as 'old buckaroo' :lol1:

Seriously, are you genuine ? It seems bizarre - have you checked the guiness book of records to see if there is a comparable entry ...How much pad have you still got left on them ?

willipdarling 19 January 2006 07:58 PM

10k out of a set of pads aint bad really. All depends on what driving you do m8.

On the other side tho to agree with pete a bit, my dads pug 505 has recently had an mot done. Needed new discs and pads. Its the first set of discs its needed, and its done 130k with a lot of that towing a caravan!!!!
You dont need to use harsh engine breaking to anticipate traffic movements ahead to get more life out of you components. Try releasing the throttle a little early, and letting the car slow up under the engine's natural way of rpm slowing down:)

I wish I could prove it somehow, but it is totally genuine - 65,000miles and no squealing yet!

I cannot see it as odd, but some on here think it's amazing

But I am a superb all-round driver!! Clearly in things like this, it shows!!??

Most just think its the ramblings of a de-ranged silly fart :p

ps i dont think its amazing!!!! Plus my bro put some new pads on a rover he had a while back. Didnt squeel and worked fine. Just had an occasional tick when turning corners. Pads were pretty much on metal!!!!! Watch out pete!!!

My MY02 STI PPP has 22K miles on it and has LOADS of pad life left.
And tyre life come to that!
