High Level Brake Light failure!

Just doing a few pre-Mot checks, and notice my high level brake light has failed (MY97 UK Wagon). Now I think all I need to do for the Mot is remove it (which I've done in an attempt to find the fault) but wondering if anyone has had this, and where the wire is likely to have broken? There is definitely no power delivered to the connector the lamp assembly attaches to, but the other brake lights work fine.

Anyone know the wiring path between high level light and where it splits off from feed for normal brake lights. Also, rear demister seems to have failed - perhaps a common wire failure point?? Trim seems a nightmare, so don't want to have to tear the whole thing apart for no reason!

Many thanks for any info, Aaron

Just a thought, but if demister + brake light not working = earth wire?

How did you check for power - between two connectors or from one to earth somewhere else?

Neil.

Good thought, thanks, but checked Earthing and they are both ok for Earth and I tried checking against an independent earth point - still no power.

Someone must have pulled this apart?! Anyone know where the wiring goes / how to get the trim off without destroying it??

Thanks, Aaron

Aaron,

Fair enough! Never know when you have overlooked the obvious!

In my previous wagon I ended up replacing some of the wires in the rubber boots that join boot to car. It was my wiper I think that failed. If you carefuly remove boot, you should be able to find the appropriate wires and check for power there.

Of course you may have tried that as well?

Neil.
