Gutted - Literally!
Needed to go to B&Q to pick up some doors today so left the scoob at home and used my old VW Camper.
On the way home I noticed a smell of petrol, and then noticed the guy behind flashing like crazy an pointing at the back end of the van. I pulled over and got out to find the back end on fire (engine in the back remember) There was loads of smoke and burning rubber dripping al over the road. The guy behind called 999 and in a flash the police were there promptly followed by a fire engine. They soon had it under control, but had the whole road closed as there was a calor gas bottle in the van! It looks like a write off as it is 20 years old. I don't have a clue what caused this to happen. The van has 122,000 miles but has full main dealer history. I can only assume a fuel line has burst. Does anyone know how this affects my scoob insurance, as the camper was on it's own policy and I had to start from scratch with NCB. By rights it should not affect it - but somehow I suspect it will! BTW - There was a lovely silver classic passed while all this was happening - anyone on here? |
sorry for your loss but may i ask are these vans worth anything in parts? as i know of a L reg one were i can lay my hands on any bits. what are the most valuble bits to sell, ebay etc

By rights it should not affect it - but somehow I suspect it will! Dont really know, but a friend that had an old sorned uninsured vehicle stolen from his driveway had a problem with an insurance company about two years ago, because he told them about the incident and they indicated that even though he had made no claim, they had to consider this as 'if he had made a theft claim'. Typical reaction from the gangsters that run the 'protectionism' market. Sorry to hear about the van BTW and good luck. |

With anything that has been out of production for a while but is still popular, there is money to be made! I am not sure which bits & how much, but I am sure that a bit of investigative work on e-bay will give you a good idea. |
Did you save the doors from B&Q?
|
If you make a claim on that policy only your NCB on that policy is affected... BUT when you renew your scoob insurance and they ask you to declare accidents and claims you have to declare that claim. This will probably add a bit to the base premium before your scoob policy NCB is taken into account. Overall I can't see it affecting scoob insurance by more than 50-100 squids.
