De-tango'ing a Blobeye. Ways and means.....?
Hi all... :wonder:
Is it at all possible to detango a blobeye's headlamps without splitting them open using heat (the "oven method"!!)...? I'm thinking maybe using one of those little grabber things or a pair of long needle nose pliers or something. Getting it out in one piece doesn't bother me either. Cheers, Nige. :thumb: |

Or ask me to do it for £50
|
no way other than taking the len apart
|
i done it as soon as i bought the car, i was 5h1tt1ng myself the whole time tho,,, all was ok tho, its actually really straight forward.
unfortunatley im in west london so a bit too faraway to do it for ya! but maybe ill see you on the 20th in kent, i think ill nip down there for the scooby/evo meet..http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=481348 |
you can use a hot air blower(i did) rather than the oven method.
|
How do you seal them back up ????
|
what does de-tango mean ?
|
detango means to take the orange reflector out of the sealed light units so that yer lights are now clear and fitted with silver orange flashing bulbs.
with regards to the resealing, if you do it quick you can be lucky and get it airtight using the same mastic, but when i did it i used a little extra sealant just to be sure. before: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y16...r/DSC00795.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y16...20car/pic2.jpg after: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y16...r/DSC00024.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y16...r/DSC00025.jpg |
if the orange reflectors are removed, do the bulbs have to be changed for ones with orange tints to keep it legal...?
|
Further info for anyone contemplating:
http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_150.htm Method of Inspection: that every direction indicator emits amber light, except vehicles first used before 1 September 1965 where both front indicators may be white and both rear indicators red. Reason for Failure: does not show light of the appropriate colour Sorry to be a killjoy - not as easy to swap it back before the MOT either ! :brickwall |
Yes you do have to change the bulbs - silvertech ones for example which look silver but flash orange..

As above, the OE bulbs are Orange, you can either re-use these or for max effect fit Silvervision bulbs. Silvertec bulbs are rubbish BTW.
No problem with MOT either way. Allan |
Echo AllanP ^^^ The Silvertec are pants, and I had no end of people not seeing me indicate and almost hitting me. The Philips Silvervision are supposed to be better, but I went for LED's which look well cool and are very visible
|
Corradoboy if you are brum way , feel free to call in and detango mine for me mate
|
PIAA mirror orange are also good. Silver when off and orange when on but much brighter than Sivertec's.

Only the Silvervision or the Led's, are adequate and safe in my opinion. Allan |
Plan to de-tango this weekend and want to put LED's in. Does anyone know if these are any good ?
