SMACS to the I.O.M. april 14th-17th

In conjunction with some of the guys I did the Stelvio Tour with, they are now looking to go over to the IOM on the Easter bank holiday weekend. Catching the ferry on Friday from Heysham or Liverpool, and coming back on the Monday. Cost for me, the wife and our 2 kids would be £184 return. I've made enquires about hotels for the weekend, and am awaiting a response, but costs seem to be around the £20 pp per night area.
So, are any of you SMACS members interested in this one? It's on our list of things to do this year, and to get over when the manx rally is on is not only a lot more expensive, it's also booked solid :(
chris.

MY93WRX 11 January 2006 09:23 PM

Been there on a Bike, its an amazing place

IOM:thumb: , love my motorbikes, went to the Island a few years back for the TT, what a place, dont know if it would quite be the same in the WRX. But can't go as want to save for a Nurburgring trip.:norty:

Mad Scientist 11 January 2006 09:49 PM

Would like to do this. I have friends in the IOM too, so could see them aswell.

However...................is it wise to be going over Easter weekend? Won't the mountain road be chock full of caravans and camper vans??????

Suppose we could do a couple of late night runs!

:)

Family stuff over Easter mate sorry Chris - another weekend and i woudl have gone like a shot:(

cw42 13 January 2006 11:02 AM

Yep, I'm taking the family too chief, so best of both worlds, just waiting on a call from IOM tourism with my price for the weekend, and got the preceeding week off work too, so no worries there :)
By the way, you have pm.

Beefy 13 January 2006 06:14 PM

Sorry cant make this over easter.

Ferry & Hotel prices

I have good and not so good news.

The good news is that Hilton offer a great deal on a nice room. It's a "Double Hilton Deluxe" which offers "Modern larger room with superior amenities. Seaview, maximum 2 adults and 2 children under 12". This is only £80 a night, good value.

But when it comes to the ferry it's a different story. To go from Liverpool to Isle of Man Fri 14 April 2006 at 1100 (which arrives at 1330) and then Isle of Man to Liverpool Sun 16 April 2006 at 1430 (arrives 1700) costs a whopping £241.49.

Anyone know how to get a cheaper ferry?

cw42 14 January 2006 11:07 AM

I've pasted the smacs into the email running about this trip from the Stelvio group, I'll double check your in the group.
Basically, I called the iom tourism yesterday, and the nice lady said to wait until after the end of feb before I book, as all the hotels will start to do spring promo's by then. I did manage to get the ferry cheaper than that though!
use this site to book your ticket, I will do similar after feb Looking at the crossings, I'd prefer to do a 11am liverpool to iom, then return at 1745 back on monday, giving us maximum time over there :)
Let me know if your successful,
chris.

manx minx 14 January 2006 09:36 PM

hi guys if you do come over at easter are you interested in meeting up with some of the local scooby drivers. If so the switchback road is a good one to show you but not so easy to find. For you guys that can't get over at Easter try and come for scooby fest in August when the rally is on. See sidc in the isle of man section for details.

jtb106 14 January 2006 10:11 PM

Yes

as someone who would be popping his IOM cherry that sounds like a great idea! will look forward to it.

manx minx 16 January 2006 08:30 AM

great stuff I will mention it to the others when I next see them.

Andy S. 18 January 2006 01:05 PM

Shame this is easter I would be going otherwise.

Twins birthday at easter and they want a party with their school friends. A bit cheaper than the year before as we went to Florida for their Birthday. :luxhello:

cw42 18 January 2006 03:21 PM

Cant you persuade them that a birthday on the iom would be unique, and something they'd remember for the rest of thier lives :)
Better than a house full of screaming girls surely :)

SteelX 22 January 2006 09:46 AM

What ferry is everyone taking? Seacat? Which port?

I know we are all staying in the same hotel but I was wondering what the ferry arrangements were, date, time, port, etc...

Thanks!

Steel
