changing a decat downpipe

right ive got a decat downpipe and wont it fitting garages want approx £90 is it easy to fit some garages have said the bolts are a right pig to undo and some times seeze is it best to take to a garage or could i do it myself

What age of car is it..... they are right though, sometimes the bolts ar an ar5se to get off, if they shear off in the turbo, then you more than likely have to remove that to sort the problem, but, i'f you're handy with spanners, i say do it yourself..... at least if you then get into trouble you won't get a bigger bill.... i'll bet that the 90 quid is if the job is easy..... not if they have problems.....

its a 95 n plate id like to do it but the thing is if it goes wrong and the bolts break but wots the chance of that happening

it took me about 1.5 hrs on a 96 classic, soak the nuts well, you have to work underneath and from the top,to be honest it aint the easiest job to do

did you have any bolts sheer

How hard can it be if it only took 1.5hrs...???

if you get the front wheels on ramps, the hardest part i found was climbing into the engine bay to get at the nuts..... as said, you need to work from above and below, hance the ramps....

ill have to give it a go gotta learn the hard way if 1 bolt sheers ill just put them back in and then take it to the garage and let them sort it

Thats the spirit.... you only learn by experimentation....!!

eventually got it fitted who said it took 1.5 hours more like 5 chuffers it was bloob sweat and a few sware words but hey got there in the end cheers

1.5 hours sounds about right at a slow pace with plenty of cuppa's. Funnily I didnt work from under the car (apart from disconnecting//connecting the downpipe to the centre section), mind you that would probably explain the bones sticking through my knuckles!!

Anyway, well done
