Stutter at 2000-3000rpm
Hi All,
I recently bought a MY98 impreza 5-door turbo and have noticed that between 2000-3000rpm there is a slight "stutter" in the engine. I can feel it when revving the car stationary and it's noticable as a slight dip in power delivery when accelerating. It does not change or dissappear as the engine warms up. I was wondering if this is sounds familiar to anyone and if so any information as to the cause/solution would be gratefully received. Many thanks, Euan |
Hi m8 because yours is a my98 check the maf sensor there quite common on those yrs.
Get the car upto temp and then disconnect it, it should stall ,if not it's knackered, before this though clean with carb/brake cleaner.:) |
Could also be the lambda (o2 Sensor) starting to fail, they can give these characteristics ..

Thanks for the ideas. I'll check these out.
The garage reset the ECU yesterday which has smoothed things out a bit (no longer noticable when stationary) but I can still feel it on the move. Also, when I forst got the car I found it had too much oil in it: level was ABOVE the upper, hot oil level, notch even when cold. I heard that running with too much oil can bugger the lambda sensors? Does this sounds likely in that case? Does anyone know where I can get a workshop manual? Haynes don't appear to do one? Thanks |
IF the oil was overfilled, there is a chance that your boost solenoid could be a bit dirty. I would maybe give this a bit of a clean as the rev range you suggest would roughly be about when your turbo is begining to boost.

boost solenoid on my 98 turbo - where is it and how it looks?
got same problem here, already got new MAF, cleaned IC valve, still got problems :( |
its on the offside inner wing. It wil have either 2 pipes coming from it (2 port) or 3 pipes (3 port)
