Oxford street sports shops

Any of you know oxford street are sports shops well?

Need some astro trainers for hockey. Now most 'sports' shops on oxford st are crap and not sports shops but sports 'fashion'. I need proper trainers, not the crap that most of them sell.

Anyone any suggestions?

There's a jjb near the Plaza (corner of great tichfield street), some trendy place oposite on the corner of Poland street IIRC and there is another place I remember on brewer street near the raymond revue bar...

Not sure if any of those will have what you want but worth a try :)

Tried lillywhites the other day. Bit crap really, had football astro trainers but not hockey ones.

Walked most the length of oxford st at lunch. NOWHERE has them. PATHETIC. Sports shops are nothing of the sort. Even the department stores don't have them. Looks like it's sports specialists shops (where are they? not in central london that's for sure!) but they tend to be small with limited stock.

Have you tried looking for online retailers - I guess that would only work if you know the show you are after though :(

how about the football shop in carnaby street.

i went in there for fashion trainers and all they had were functional trainers/footie boots

If you are going down carnaby street then you might as well pop in for coffee ;)

Online yes, but with trainers and sticks, you have to try before you buy unless buying exactly same as already experienced/tried. :(

Football astro trainers aren't the same as hockey ones. Hockey trainers tend to be wider with more side and front protection than a footy trainer (have a hockey ball or stick whacked against your foot and you'll know why!)

i can't get to carnaby st until about 5.45, but if you're still there I can pop in for a coffee ;)

There's a few of us in the Soho area then :)

I'm just round the corner on Great Marlborough Street for the next few weeks although I'm making a bid for freedom at 5ish :)

I'm here long enough to develop a small, unhealthy addiction to Bodeans on Poland Street! ;)

Good choice!

I'm in Alfred place, behind the paperchase opposite goodge street station on TCR.

Don't get out until 5.30 tho :(

Not Soho but I'm in Fitzrovia so 5 minutes from Oxford Circus where I get the tube every bl**dy day. Sooner I get out the better :D At least to somewhere that sells proper sports gear.:D
